Title: G4.5 Hair quality

I'm sure this has already been discussed but what happened to the quality in pony hair?!

I was so excited to get the set with accurate colored Luna, in the box the hair looked great and silky (not sure if you can tell if something is silky or not by eye haha) But as soon as I took Luna out of the box its... so disappointing  :| Oily and ratty hair.

I love taking pictures of ponies and styling their hair. This type of nylon just doesn't want to cooperate.

Many a discussion. I don’t know what’s going on at hasbro to make them do this, but it’s bad and needs to stop. When I take a pony out of the box, I don’t want to spend time cleaning out the grease/whatever else is in there! I don’t need my first thoughts when opening it to be “What is on her hair and is it okay for me?”. And it might just be me, but I’ve noticed the hair stuff kinda smells. I’m not sure what smell I’d describe it as, but it’s not a smell I’d like to have with a pony.

They dropped the ball with the newer toys. I never liked G4.5 anyway...always liked the older figures better. I think that is the general consensus amongst collectors.

G4/Reboot has awful, unmanageable, thin, ratty, dry, oily hair. Very seldom do I find the hair soft, silky or thick. Wth happened between G3 and G4 anyway? I sometimes wonder why they bother with MLP at all these days. No effort, no creativity, no quality. I have fakies with nicer hair.  -_-

I guess they found a cheaper way to make hair. I tried flat-ironing, but it just sprung back to its original shape/texture.

However, I did see someone post a tutorial using lotion and a curling iron, that made the hair seemingly completely change texture.

Perhaps fabric softener would help?
I've had such strange luck with the hair. Ponies bought in store is garbage hair, but my Sandbar from Ali is completely fine. That red seapony from the Walmart exclusive set has fine hair too. Any time the pony has that plastic band that splays out the hair, the quality is garbage. It's always better when the hair is in an elastic and twisted.

Yup, it's truly depressing at times, and really gives off the impression that they just don't care. After all, isn't the whole point of MLPs that they have nice, brushable hair...

To be fair, I don't think I've ever heard of a kid actually brushing their hair as part of play - I know I didn't brush mine as a kid, I just moved them around. And judging by the fact that ponies in the wild almost never come with hair that's been well-taken care of, I don't seem to have been the only one. So... I guess the hair is a lower priority to Hasbro.

Well it depends on the kid and their individual style of play. Doesn't mean they should skimp on the quality though.

Not saying they should, of course! But from a corporate perspective, it's probably something they think they can cut corners on. Which is... obviously incredibly disappointing.

This is definitely what I've found, too! Generally tends to single ponies having worse hair than ones in larger sets, and singles they tend to use the awful plastic band, and sets they usually lean toward elastic bands.

Red seapony?

Haven Bay!

Thats weird because the set I got this Luna in had her hair twisted and in an elastic band. I might have gotten a bad batch XD
