ALTERNATE REHAIR SWAP II

We have the official go-ahead to get started.  The objective of this swap is to create a beautiful rehair for your partner!  No painting is required, and there is a newbie category (you will be paired with another newbie; other than that, this swap is not skill-based).  The time frame for this swap is shorter than usual--please double-check your schedule to be sure you will be able to acquire supplies, rehair, and ship by the deadline!

Dates:
Sign ups: January 18 - 31 OR until we reach 15 signups
Partners assigned before or on: February 4
Progress photo check: February 16
Final photo check-in: March 2
Ship date: March 9

Please remember to always check your organizer's feedback before joining a swap.

Rules:
1. Feedback: Beginners must have 3 positive Arena feedback; intermediate/advanced must have at least 5 positive arena feedback.

2. You must have been an arena member for at least 3 months.

3. There are two skill levels: beginner (just starting out with rehairing/no customizing feedback—other kinds of feedback are okay) or intermediate/advanced; please include 2-3 photos of your customs/rehairs to help me with assessing general style and skill level.  This is not a skill-based swap, but we’ll try to match you with someone comparable to yourself as much as possible.

4.  Swap limit: 1-2 ponies valued at no more than $15-20 in good condition.  Only one pony is required!

5. Extras: You may include small extras, but please do not go overboard with additional rehairs and treats.  We don’t want our swap to turn into a budget-busting extravaganza or have anyone feeling badly because some participants made more rehairs for their partners than others. 

6.  Please do not over-commit.  Due to the fact that there is no painting involved, the time frame is SUBSTANTIALLY shorter than for a normal custom swap (I have shortened it slightly from the first rehair swap since most participants finished early and waited a long time to ship)!  No more than 2 other swaps at the same time as this one.

6.  Please check in and ship on time.  Order your hair and find your baits early to allow time to finish!

7.  Please keep your partner a secret and don’t ship early!  This spoils the fun for everyone else.   I’ll be withholding shipping addresses until I have verified that your rehair is complete.  You will not receive a rehair if you do not send in a picture for the final check-in.

8.  Please stay in touch!  Keep us updated on the thread with your progress and let me know immediately if unanticipated circumstances come up that might interfere with your ability to keep your commitment to this swap.  You must send a pm when you ship and pm or post when you receive your rehair.

9.  Generations: This has been primarily a G1 rehair swap; if you like other generations it would be okay to include one here or there, but please ensure that most ponies on your wishlist are G1.

10.  Hair and Pony: Please use doll-quality nylon, saran, kanekalon, or similar hair, not dollar-store wig hair, unless your partner specifies that he/she is okay with different quality or exotic hair types.  The pony body should be in good condition with no major flaws like pindot, cancer, or bite marks, but need not be perfect.

11.  Painting is not necessary for this swap.  If you wish to do MINOR restorations or changes (like repainting the eyes or retouching the symbols to match the new hair) that is fine, but it is not required.

12.  Send your swap form to Raindrop with “rhodochrosite” in the title and “I can ship by [type in the ship date]” in the body of your message to prove that you have read the swap rules. 

13.  Please include with your swap form a list of 20-25 ponies that you would love to see with new hair!  Most on your list should be relatively easy to find and inexpensive.  Be courteous--don’t request a pony with a value over the swap limit.

14.  Shipping: Please keep proof of shipping until your partner has received his/her pony.

I have updated the first post with participants signed up so far.  It's neat how much fun we can have with such a simple swap!  I'm excited to see what comes out of this second time 'round.  Does anyone have the Corral link for the alternate rehair thread there, so we can browse for inspiration while we wait for others to join?

I ordered 3 hanks from RetroDolls and 7 hanks Dolly Hair about a week ago, so they should arrive soon.  Still waiting on them in the mail, but I'm hoping they will arrive soon and they will be colors my partner will want!  Here's to hoping Tina has her business practices pulled together and the Dolly Hair actually arrives at all!

I'm about to do the same thing. I just won a big lot of ponies off of goodwill, so hopefully they get here soon, so I can see how much hair I'm gonna need! 25+ ponies, and they only showed about 6 in the photos... I can't wait to see who else is in there!!

Join us Eluluu!!  I received my DH order yesterday and I am so loving the new colors!  I bought some thermal hair and it is amazing. 

Rain- last time we did this, we had the option of having 1 partner or 2 partners, is that something we could do?

im tempted to take a second partner but i think ill play it safe. we still have a lot of remodeling/unpacking to do so i cant be sure if ill have as much freetime (and fun money) then as i have right now. but next time around ill  prolly take 2 partners =]

I know some of us gave more detail than others in our swap forms, so I had a couple of questions to start out:

1) Do you prefer a single hair color, multiple stripes, blends, or a whole rainbow?

2) How do you feel about curls, crimps, and fancy pinned-up buns?

For me, I LOVE unique blends, but anything that works with a pony's symbol/body color, I'm open to.
Any styling I don't mind either, as long as it kind of goes with the theme of the pony.

I also would love to see new symbol colors to match the new hair as well. I plan on doing a little repainting for my partners, just to keep things matching. :)

I suppose I should answer my own questions!

1) Single colors or multiples/blends? Generally I like bicolor/4-color stripe combos like the original MLP, although I have seen some gorgeous single-color and blended rehairs so I'm open to whatever my partner's creative side comes up with.

2) Crimps/curls/buns?  I do like curls on some ponies.  Have never tried the fancy pin-up style myself, but it can be elegant.  Again, I've no definite preferences.

3) Symbol repaints?  I'd say go for it, but only if you feel like it and it suits the rehair.  Definitely not required for this swap.

definietly prefer multiple hair colors,, in fact I hope i don't have just one hair color, that'd be boring. Multiple stripes blends or a rainbow would all be awesome

Curls are great, krimps are ok, not sure how i feeel about buns unless they fit the style of the alternate design
3 symbol repaints?
Definitely ok with that, though i'd prefer something simple than completelyu changing the symbol. like if someone added blue and red balloons to UpUp and Away's symbol, that would be cool, but changeing slugger's bat and mitt into a fist , or adding tongues to lickety split would be a bit extreme...i hope that make sense..
My question:
I know some some folks requested 2nd partners,  but I was wondering if anyone planned on including bonus extra ponies, I know many of us in the last swap did a second pony as a bonus, but I think that was because we ended up having so much extra time...so...Are you ok with getting a bonus?  i WON'T be upset if I don't get one, but I will probably end up including one...

I prefer stripes or blends. i would be happy with a whole rainbow as well, but I don't care for single hair colors. Although if it is a blend that can look like a single color from far away but up close you can see the blend that can be pretty as well.

I love curls. Crimps can look pretty and so can fancy pinned-up hair, but they need to be in the right circumstances. I think that pinned-up hair works better on a full custom where it matches the pony itself.

3) Symbol repaint?
I am totally fine with repainting symbols as long as the pony stays similar to the original, so I want to be able to easily tell who the pony is supposed to be, if that makes sense.

4) Bonus pony?
Well I would never say no to extra ponies XD but its totally not expected. I have two partners and I plan to try and do two ponies for each of them, but I really like rehairing, so it is just fun for me.

Stripes and such?  Cool with me.  OK with curls and crimps, but the elaborate stuff will get messed up by accident.  Either by the 7.5 yo or one of the kittens.  One likes to pull out hairpins and such.   Hefty, that is a funny idea for Lickety! 
Extra ponies are nice!  Last time I created a Baby Bubbles as my partner had Bubbles on her list and I had a yellow baby hanging around.  Anyone for a mama/baby combo even if a baby is not listed?  Did that make sense?

To add on to what Hefty brought up:

I plan to do two ponies each for my two partners, but I won't be butt-hurt if I myself only receive one. :)

and Rybett's Mamma/Baby combo: Bring it on! :) I know I could whip something up like that myself if my partners like that idea as well!! :P

EDIT: Any length of hair is fine with me, as long as my partner thinks it looks good. But I would prefer to see a nice thick mane and tail as opposed to something I may be tempted to have to add to later. :)

I love multiple stripes, blends, and gradients.  I'm happy with a single color, but would prefer a unique stripe or blend.

No tight straw curls.  I like curls but prefer a bigger, less tight curl.  No crimps, pins up are fine.

4) Extras?  Not necessary.  I know we're only required to do rehairs, but time is short and it sounds like some may be trying a little symbol painting on the side *eyes lovely pony with badly smudged symbols that won't match the hair*.  Some of you also have two partners, and there's shipping time if you have to order something.  Remember to finish just one first, and then worry about extras if you have more time!

single color- meh not overly fond of it.
multiple stripes/rainbows- i prefer at least a couple colors. rainbows i prefer pastel toned generally, but it depends on the pony itself, sometimes a bolder gem-colored rainbow works well. i trust my partners opinion. =]
blends- i love blends! theyre just unique and kinda fun to do. i just finished my first serious blend (8 colors) so i definately appreciate the work that goes into it haha

curls- i like simple curls the best generally. low maintenance is the key as i have little to no girlie-skills and wont be able to repair the 'do if my cat knocks it off the shelf. =P
crimps- im ok with them but it highly depends on the pony itself =]
pinned up buns- i like the look of them but id worry about if it ever got messed up i wouldnt be able to fix it, so ill prolly pass for now.

3) Repainted symbols?

unpainted is fine if youre not comfortable with a brush but i plan on adjusting any symbols that need tweaking. so its up to you really =]

4) Extra ponies?
i typically try to do 2 or more ponies depending on time... but i usually try to do them more as replacements for other extras, as money is tight and hair is plentiful. but that being said i wont be upset if i only get one pony. =] i just do it cause i enjoy it and i figure if i dont have the money for knick knacks or candy people wont mind getting an extra pony instead. =P

Ahh, hair length.  Hasbo length or a bit longer.  Overly long just makes a better handle for Lily Blossom to grab on to. That being said, I once got a custom that used a bare minimum of hair.  One day I am going to add to it.

I absolutely love blends - love rainbows (like for an otherwise boring pony like sundance) there are so many ponies that need better hair colors!

guess it depends on the pony = like if you added buttons into an updo for buttons hair ;-) that'd be cool, and of course princess ponies love being fancy - all ringlet curls etc but sometimes just a better hairblend and regular "hasbro" length is perfect (that pastel cotton candy redo comes to my mind) so it would depend on the pony being re-done

3) Repainted symbols?

Sure- why not? I totally painted the cherries red on my cherries jubilee redo when I made her a red-head ;-)

4) Extra ponies?

I'd  love to have an extra, but no pressure as I am fine with just one well done :-)

5)Baby pony as an extra?

I  ABSOLUTELY L-O-V-E mommy/baby combos! This is my whole collecting excuse = making pony families :-)

For hair length, I'd say preferably not longer than double the normal length (exceptions would be super long hair styled in a way like tight curls, up do, stuff like that.) Too long and it becomes unmanageable for me ^^;

I got my box in the mail from Goodwill yesterday, and had a MAJOR score. After a soak, scrub down, and hair conditioned, I now have 1 upgrade for an existing pony, 3 ponies that I needed for the swap, (What are the chances that a lot bought on a whim would produce ponies from both of my partners lists?!), PLUS 11 ponies I didn't have before. AND after a good cleaning, are all in great shape! :) Retail therapy at its finest!

OH! And Dollyhair also sent me my tracking number for my hair yesterday! WOO! Can't wait to get going on these girls!

I'm so glad this is a shorter swap, I'm so excited to give out the ponies/ see what I get, I don't think I could wait very long!!  :biggrin:

I'm afraid I was very naughty.  I'm not supposed to be buying ponies for a while (trying to avoid the temptation of spending too much time surfing ebay).  I have so many extras/baits/TLC ponies that I need to get rid of, too.  I was getting something for a family member, though, and happened to see a small, very cheap bait lot with a pony my partner wanted...  I am sure you can see where this is going!  I didn't buy anything for myself and I only put in one low bid (didn't try to snipe, or anything), so I guess I am still achieving the purpose of my pony-buying hiatus.

I love my new Pilot hair, too.  It's fun to play with the color-changing properties...

finished touching up #2s symbols (omg it worked out better than id hoped... i almost want to keep her!) and started on #3 (since i wont be adding as many regular extras im just gonna toss in one or two extra rehairs) the repaint is about done, might adjust one last thing to make it less dark, then to figure out what color hair i wanna do... *pokes pony around my desk with a pencil*

I may be the oddball on this answer = but I prefer the colors of SS without the fuzz = even the "regular" posey, lickety, heart throb, buttons = the whole point to me about MLP are the symbols - I say = show off the symbols along with the new-do

Forgot to mention earlier, the remaining hair I was waiting on arrived today! I'll be starting pony #2 tomorrow, as well as finishing up #1.

As for the question, if there's hardly any flocking loss I'll say flocked, but if enough is gone that the pony looks like it has a case of mange than deflocked.

I also agree with deflocked!  There is just something very unique about them after the flocking comes off that looks amazing.

Ooh, favorite candies.... I don't go for candy much unless it's kit-kats, or the chocolate bar type candies (y'know, Milky Way, 3 Musketeers, Snickers, Twix, etc.... oh, and Peanut Butter Cups).

I'm pretty chill with trying out new snacks and things, I'm not picky!  :biggrin:

We are candy twins :lol:  I love these same candies and will add Skittles to your brilliant list!!  Yummy yummy candy :banana:

chocolate- milk chocolate (dont like dark or white), especially if it has crispies in it, or nuts... im usually up for tryin new stuff =P
GUMMIES- i love me some gummies! (not jellies. jellybeans = blegh) ill try about any flavor, tho in general i dont really like grape or watermelon flavors.

Other accessories.... I would say supplies, definitely!  Any extra hair, stickers, yarn, random junk even that looks neat, I don't mind, lol. I'll probably find a use for it. I love rainbows and paisley as well!!

For candy you can't go wrong with anything gummy, ESPECIALLY Watermelon Sourpatch kids or regular, gum, fun dip, and pez.  Milk chocolate is good too ... no dark or white, yuck!

For other types of extras I could really use some cute office supply stuff like cute paperclips, pens, and POST ITS, omg do I ever need Post It Notes.  Little pen pads, gel pens, markers, sharpies, things like that.  I like girly colors and modern patterns.  Wings would be awesome too ... either repo flutter wings or just any kind of custom wings to put on my wingers or flutters.

to answer ya - nope this pony is a plain jane/ no glitter type...  so now she's all glam and a beautiful lady in red ;-) (cherry pie)


ooh candy loves !  smarties, gummy worms, anything chocolate, twizzlers, kitkats and junior mints (so glad the dollar store has 'em so I stock up before a movie) = I admit it = I have a sweet tooth :-)

I prefer flocking, but ONLY  because I  have a nearly complete set of De-flocked ponies, only missing bouncy and Skippety Doo .

as for candy, I LURVE white chocolate, take 5 candy bars, kit kats and reeses.

I have run into a issue.  I bought a 'bait' pony that I intended on using for this swap.  However, when she arrived, I was floored when she arrived in stunning condition.  Her hair is perfect. Her symbols lovely.  Her flocking is really good.  The only problem?  She has a little dirty spot on her leg.  I kept trying to justify removing her flocking and hair, but I can't do it.  I can't find another to replace her either.  I had big plans for this pony too and I'm kinda disappointed right now.

So my pony friends, what should I do?  I can try like heck to find this pony in bait condition, or I can move on and use another pony instead.  What would you guys do in this position?

Aw what a bummer!  I would find another bait ... or try like heck to find the same pony in worse condition.  Maybe re-sell the one you bought to recoup fees?  Tough situation though!  I'm still waiting on the extra hair I had to order .... I know I'm going to be seriously pushing the deadlines(s)!  As long as the hair arrives on time that is ...

Just got all my extras in order for my partner(s) boxes! I think I'm going to take good pics and pack everything up tonight so all I gotta do is slap a label on there and pop em in the mail when its time to ship! Plus, everytime I see these rehairs sitting on my self waiting to go to their new homes, they keep trying to get me to keep them.  STOP GETTING INTO MY MIND WITH YOUR LITTLE PONY THOUGHTS! I can't look at them anymore or they're going to end up staying! lol  >_<

Since I *think* I was the first to receive my box, I'll start out the brags!  :biggrin: (if there's a thread going already let me know and I'll post there, but I didn't see one..)

My box came from the lovely and talented Eluluu! Words cannot even describe how beautiful these ponies are, so I'll just show em' to ya!

First one I opened was this AMAZING rainbow Medley! She was one of my favorite childhood ponies, and any version of her would have been lovely, but the fact that her hair now matches with my ALL TIME favorite pony, Skydancer, is just amazing! *faints*

Here she is with my two childhood Medley's...The one on the left got a reroot (since I hacked her hair off at some point), and the one on the right is in her original condition from when I was a kid.

Next up is this stunning Powder...Purple and gold seriously suit this girl so well!

Oddly enough, I have been working on restoring a Powder that came to me in a large lot. Shes not yet haired, but I have plans to do her in DH's Bougainvillea and silver, in the same fashion that Eluluu did my swap Powder! Gold and Silver for the win! Here they are together!

My awesome ponies from Toffeeca have arrived!  Well, technically they arrived on Monday!  I'm so excited to snap some pictures in natural light (rain rain go away) and post them here  I especially love my newly re-haired Sparkler and Caper loves his new hedgehog friend!  Pictures coming very soon !

They look so happy at your house Eluluu:).  I had a really, really tough time saying goodbye to High Flyer, but I knew you'd love her.  I thought Serena turned out nice too.  I used a hair dryer to her the true change of the thermal hair.

My box arrived today.  It was HUGE!  I was thinking, "This can't possibly be my rehair swap box", but I'm on a "no buying" pledge at the moment so it couldn't have been anything else!  I will take pictures and post them as soon as possible (real estate appraiser coming today since we are refinancing, so very busy day, but the ponies brightened it up wonderfully :) ).  Thanks so much, Cate!  I love them both!

Thanks Tof!  I was amused to send them where I did.  Brother was born there.  I used a combo of Daiquiri Ice and Mermaid.  Some Lily chewed my phone's power cord so have to share with hubby.  Will get pics hopefully tonight.  Of the pony that is.  I think the candy has all been nommed.

Our rehairs are really turning out gorgeous!  I love our SLH flutters with their new wings, rainbow winger, the golden-haired Powder, Milky Way's more colorful tresses....  And of course, my own!  **hugs Parasol and blows on the SHS to make the thermal hair change**  Curses on my cell phone for not sending out my pictures for some reason... need to dig out the digital camera so I can share!

They turned out great!  I especially love Fizzy's new eyes and symbols!  I can't paint to save my life so I'm more then happy to add ponies with re-painted symbols to my collection because I can't do it myself.  I'll post pictures of them soon!

And this is what she looked like when she arrived (had to put her in the fridge to "reset" the cold color).  She is so pretty with the Pilot thermal hair!

Unfortunately none of the candy survived to be photographed (and there was a lot of it **cringes**).  There were also two cute "sock monkey" style pencil toppers, and two cute little wind-up reptile toys that also do not appear in the picture as they have been assigned to "habitats" by my girls!

Okay, i've finally uploaded all these pictures! :) My box was from Stiletto, who is absolutely amazing at colors!!
Here's what I opened the box to see (if you can see it past the blurriness of the camera) beautiful wrapping paper:

-The cute little eggs had some Starburst candy in it! Those went quickly, lol. The round package was some Burt's Bees lip balm, it smells like mint. Mmmmmmmmmm!

-And check out this gorgeous bandana!! Rainbow AND Paisley! I love it!!!  :heart: (Can never have enough journals either!!)

- As if one paisley thing wasn't enough... Stiletto also found the cutest paisley purse! There were some pony stickers inside. :)

And now for the ponies....
I tried to get some pictures that showed their colors, but the camera only picked them up with the rainbow backdrop- I hope it is not too distracting.

-First up is High Flyer, who has some bluer hair than she normally comes with- also a silver streak in there too! A nice, subtle touch ^_^ Love her!! The silver totally matches her symbol.
-Rosedust is sooo stunning!! Look at all those colors- there are two different blues, a sky blue and a light cyan color, with a stripe of rich grape purple that matches her eyes.

I got my package from Enolaalone! It actually came yesterday, but I wasn't home until today. What a great package to come home to. The ponies are totally gorgeous! Thank you!

I still have to post pictures of the ponies I received....I LOVED them, but have been so busy with work and every day off I get its raining outside so I can't get good light.  I WILL post them tomorrow! 

Also, thank you Raindrop for hosting this!  It was my first swap and now I can officially say I am addicted to rehairing ponies!  I have done several for myself to keep and look forward to the next Alternate Re-hair Swap!
