Spoiler
The only novel I've read that is a source of a Disney film is Bambi.  I didn't like the book at all  Without giving too much away  there are parts that are more graphic than the Disney film and the deer that Bambi fights over Faline with has a bigger role.

I've also heard that Disney was considering making more Rescuers movies since there were several books in the series but eventually decided to make Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers instead.

Yeah, Fox and the Hound is my favorite film and I have read the novel. The movie is sad enough, the book was awful emotionally wise.

I completely forgot about the Pete's Dragon remake, argh! Sorry about that X_X I think cause it was more realistic-looking than the original, I just mentally file it in with the live-action remakes.

Re: novels
Spoiler
101 Dalmatians is a great book, I love the sequel Starlight Barking too - it's bonkers and I definitely see why Disney decided to go in a different direction for their sequels, but I like it anyway :p Sadly I think it's hard to find now (not sure if it's still in print or not), I remember having difficulty tracking it down when I bought my copy.

I've read Peter Pan and Jungle Book, but only once each, and it was so long ago I can't really remember much about them.. I've read at least some of the original Alice books but not sure if I've read all of either one.

for Rescuers, I have the first three books in one of those "3 books in 1" deals.. don't usually like those, but I found it in a charity shop and figured, why not. They misprinted it and put the stories in the wrong order >_> I remember liking them okay (it's been a while and I only read through it once ^^;) but I preferred the films... wasn't a fan of how the books handled the romance between Miss Bianca and Bernard. Definitely wouldn't pass up the other books in the series if I found them in a charity shop too, but I don't think I'd go out of my way to get them.

Yeah, Fox and the Hound is my favorite film and I have read the novel. The movie is sad enough, the book was awful emotionally wise.

It was TRAUMATIZING. I completely understand why it never got a reprint

As Ponyfan mentioned, Bambi also gets kind of graphic and ends on a solemn note, but I actually really liked it. I'm looking forward to reading Bambi's Children in the future.

The Starlight Barking is on my to-read list! I completely forgot the Sword in the Stone was based on a particular book, and I know the Black Cauldron is too but it's part of a series as well. So much to read!!

I completely forgot about the Pete's Dragon remake, argh! Sorry about that X_X I think cause it was more realistic-looking than the original, I just mentally file it in with the live-action remakes.

That's totally fair!! I liked Elliot's design but the movie was fairly underwhelming.

Pretty much all! Even before Disney Plus. A few sequels I won't watch for cringe reasons. I regret watching Cinderella II.  Huge Disney house fan. Pretty sure I saw Icabod and Mr Toad but need to rewatch the Icabod part. Anyone remember Ben and Me? I loved that one. I don't have much interest in Tinkerbell movies. Bed Knobs and Broomsticks I don't remember.

Cinderella 3 is actually better than Cinderella 2.  Much less cringeworthy but still not as good as the original.

Actively avoiding Mulan, Beauty and the Beast, leery about Hunchback, Tarzan, Jungle book and Atlantis sequels.

My husband and I have watched a LOT of Disney films over the course of our lives so far (we are in our early 40's), and we own quite a lot of this list on VHS (yes we still have boxes of those hanging out in the house) and on DVD/Blu-ray.

I noticed the following were missing from the list (unless I missed seeing them as I scrolled through): So Dear to My Heart (1949) (live action/ animation hybrid) and Buzz Light Year of Star Command (2000) (sequel).

The direct to VHS/DVD Home Media release film category starts to get a little messy if you compile the complete list of "film/animation" releases since some were just animation episodes that at the time were not released yet (Tarzan & Jane (2002)for example) or compilations of other episodes from the animation series (Gargoyles the Movie: The Heroes Awaken (1995) - 5 part pilot edited together). Then there is the whole bunch of them that were just collections of animated original content "shorts" loosely tossed together to make a sequel for release verses an actual complete story.

I noticed the following were missing from the list (unless I missed seeing them as I scrolled through): So Dear to My Heart (1949) (live action/ animation hybrid) and Buzz Light Year of Star Command (2000) (sequel).

Whoops, not sure how I missed So Dear! Ty for pointing that out. Buzz I think I left out cause -

Quote
The direct to VHS/DVD Home Media release film category starts to get a little messy if you compile the complete list of "film/animation" releases since some were just animation episodes that at the time were not released yet (Tarzan & Jane (2002)for example) or compilations of other episodes from the animation series (Gargoyles the Movie: The Heroes Awaken (1995) - 5 part pilot edited together).
- basically this - I tried to leave out any of the compilation movies, otherwise the list would've been about double the size XD. (I made an exception for Recess: Taking the Fifth Grade since that is a compilation movie, but AFAIK the parts of it were never released separately?)

So Buzz Lightyear I think I decided was more of a "pilot" than a "movie", but honestly I've never seen it so maybe I misjudged it? That section was hard to compile, I hadn't heard of like half of them and it was difficult to figure out from their Wiki page if they were a compilation movie or not.

Good catch on So Dear tho, I'll add that and the Pete's Dragon remake to the list :)

You can get So Dear to My Heart on DVD from the Disney Movie Club.  (I have that one, too.)
