nirvana or factory error?
« on: September 10, 2021, 04:59:30 PM »
I have a baby moondancer in my collection and am not a 100% sure wether it is a nirvana pony or just a factory error pony.

she is in rather nice condition for a second hand shop find, with her glitter cutie marks looking nice, no visible tail rust and her pink hair still pink (and also her purple steak still nice). she's just a bit yellowed and a few small stains i haven't been able to wash off with just soap and a magic eraser.

but the big thing now that baffles me are her eyes. except for the highlight on her pupils there is no painted white in the eyes. is that a factory error or a nirvana pony thing?

(all her feet are etched and theres also the PAT PEND on it. (c) 1984 hasbro. made in hong kong.)

Ooh sounds creepy! It's not a variant I've ever heard of, so I guess it may be classed as a factory error if original. can we see a photo? There are others on here far more qualified than me to comment.

I think this is a factory error, pretty sure I've seen ponies missing their eye whites once or twice before. I agree, it'd be great to see a photo so we know what we're looking at :)

I would assume it's a factory error; like the ones that sometimes are missing the white spot on their eye.

I have a Baby Glory that's like that, and I believe I've seen several Baby Surprises that lack their eye whites too. It tends to not be apparent unless you inspect them closely.

Might be a European variation, most likely the ones that were sold on card with a bottle only. They were a "budget release" so perhaps Hasbro figured they could skimp on the eye whites for the white ponies. It's one less paint application, and it's not going to be as noticeable on a baby pony as it might've been on an adult.
