More questions... I missed out on a lot in the last 6 years!

I am planning to start a RETRO section on www.strawberryreef.com. Would you consider all of these appropriate for the "RETRO" section?  Please let me know what I am missing and if anything listed you think should be somewhere else. I will also likely include the G1/G3 Mold Reproductions in the G1/G3 sections of the site.

Also if anyone knows any visual variations between the reproductions vs original G1/G3 ponies or 25th vs 35th anniversary ponies, please let me know.

Thanks so much!

I think those could all be considered retro, or retro style (although I'm not familiar with Mashems).

Another set to maybe add would be the Loyal Subjects action figures, they are G1 characters in a kind of cutesy G1 style.

Thank you!  I had saved pics of those but didn't know what they were called.  I will add those to the list :)

And these are mashems...

The Running Press Mini Ponies and Books:
Firefly
Glory

The Loyal Subject Ponies
Gusty
Lickety-split
Applejack
Glory
Firefly
Sundance
Princess Sparkle
Minty
Snuzzle

The Bridge Direct/Basic Fun Ponies

Collector Set

Peachy's Pretty Parlor with a newly molded Twinkles the Cat

Both Rainbow Sets

Part of the Unicorn sets:
Gusty
Moondancer
Sparkler
Glory
Twilight
Sunbeam

Pegasus sets

Earth Pony Sets

Half of the unreleased Flutter Pony set-I forget who was in it

The G3 Set:
Rainbowdash
Applejack
Pinkie Pie
Fluttershy

The Hallmark Ornaments-I don't remember who all has been released.

SDCC Twilight Through the Ages, featuring Twilight on a Brand new mould, and G4.5 Twilight Sparkle

The Funko Pops Collector Ponies and Keychains

I wouldn't consider the Crossover Ponies Retro as they're all new characters on a new mould. Though Ghostbusters Pony looks an awful lot like Shady. They seem to be their own unique thing. I would classify them as unique Crossover. And possibly Convention exclusives made widely available due to the cancelation of said convention.

The first set of Basic Fun Rainbow ponies were released as scented versions at first and the 2nd release were unscented.

Hallmark also made Firefly and Moondancer ornaments.

One of the World's Smallest MLP sets includes a wingless Firefly instead of Blossom.

I look forward to exploring your site! I've heard mention of it on here before, but haven't had a chance to check it out yet.

A couple of things that I can think of:

The first set of rainbow ponies (Moonstone, Parasol, Starshine, etc.) in the 35th anniversary group were originally sold as scented pponies. Not sure if it was due to complaints about discoloration, but then a non-scented set was released.

Some variations from the originals:

Sparkler. Her original tail was purple, and original mane was predominantly purple with a neon red stripe in the middle. Retro version has her tail both purple and red, and her mane half and half, with purple on top and red on the bottom. Then they changed her to look more like her original version with the all-purple tail and small red stripe in her mane, but the purple color isn't as dark as the original and actually appears to be 2 shades of purple blended together.

Gusty and Sparkler: the stripe in their manes (on the later version of Sparkler) is placed on the other side (non-display side), so the mane lays the opposite direction of the original.

Heartthrob is a duller, bustier pink than her original counterpart.

Moondancer: has both burgandy red and purple in her tail, much the way Sparkler's was done, instead of just red.

I'm sure I'll think of some more and will add to this as I do, but these are the ones I can think of offhand right now.

To add to this, several other ponies have their manes rooted in the opposite directions! Off the top of my head, all of the ponies in the Surprise pose have their manes rooted backward (The longest rooting row faces the right instead of the left so they can't be switched to lay in the front), and of course of course Gusty and Sparkler have this same issue as well.

Another add on: There is a mini Glory and book, just like the Firefly one (except Glory is more accurate than Firefly was lol)

It would be great to have them on there.  At least, I would find it useful.  I wonder if they should have their own section though, separate from Retro?  I'm not sure why but it feels to me like they should... Maybe because they are all new characters.  Hmm.  Well, it would be good to see them on there either way!

Ah, good catch, Serena. I knew that the hair on the pegasi in that set was placed on the NDS in the package, but forgot that it was actually rooted to only face that way.

Another variation to possibly note: some of the BF ponies (someone who owns them all who can check will hopefully jump in and help with which ones specifically) don't have forelocks that originally had them. Surprise and Heartthrob come to mind immediately, just because their hair being called into question is fresh in my mind! Also I'm not sure any of the retro ponies have curly hair despite their original counterparts having it.

While the G3 version of Rainbow Dash has her hair in rainbow order, the remake has it swapped around a bit (Pink, green, yellow, orange).

This may be too detailed to include but first set of BF rainbows also had a lot of box variants.  There were also 2 box variants for the Collector Ponies.

Glory's set also has box variations - some have 35th on the box and some don't. Then there's different language combinations on some of the releases, and I have a Sunlight in a completely different blue box which I think may be Australian but I'm not 100%.

I'm pretty sure there is also a version of Sparkler with the all purple tail?

And there were two shades of Bow Tie (?)

Scented and unscented rainbows too, though that was probably mentioned already.

Moondancer's hair is rooted through with a light purple, if I remember correctly, to give a blended effect.

Did we mention ST Applejack as well?

Also if anyone knows any visual variations between the reproductions vs original G1/G3 ponies or 25th vs 35th anniversary ponies, please let me know.

I have these pics of the three Cotton Candys together, if that helps:

Spoiler
80s original (Concave feet ver) - 25th ann - 35th ann
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

25th ann has flat feet, 35th ann has concave
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

25th ann is the easiest to tell the differences with, her colours are MUCH brighter than the original, especially her hair. The differences between the orig + 35th ver are much subtler
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I believe 35th has smaller/more circular speckles in her symbol but not sure if that could be a batch variation thing, or even just my mind playing tricks on me

Also I couldn't really get a good photograph of this (this was the best I could manage) but the 25th ver has much deeper-set eyes (I guess would be the way to word it), almost makes it look like she has bags under her eyes.

and original (CC feet) vs 35th Blossom:

Spoiler

I think my 80s Blossom may be a little faded, but even so I would still say 35th ver has much brighter, bolder colours.

Her symbol is also slightly different to the orig, the petals on her flowers are closer together

Hope this helps :)

Also have you got the G1 Dollymixes listed?
