To be honest I think they look a lil' odd from front view but to be fair... ponies always looked odd from the front view in all generations.... so this isn't a new issue exclusive to Gen 5.... if you overlook that, I think they look cute!

It seems like they are going for a Disney-esque feel for the movie. If you look at Disney's Rapunzel, she also had detailed rendered teeth.

Also Hitch looks a lot like a pony version of Flynn Rider to me.

Hitch is Flynn Ryder's fursona. It makes sense it'd be a pony, since he did have a horse sidekick.

I really like the character designs, especially Zipp, but I still hate how non-horselike they are and I can't help but feel it was a calculated effort to manufacture another Brony Phenomenon and you just can't manufacture something like that.

Yeah that's a thing that I sorta dislike, I am excited for this new gen but it definately feels like Hasbro will try to replicate FIM's success as much as possible.

To me it almost seems like they want FIM level popularity but not the same demographic. It seems like this time they are aiming at the socially aware Steven Universe crowd. But while everyone says the animation reminds them of Disney it kinda reminds me of Miraculous Ladybug.

I'm a bit amused we go from 7 main characters in G3's last couple years, to 6 in G4, and now 5 in G5. We keep going down by one! Can we expect a Mane 4 once we reach G6?

I do like and am excited for the upcoming toys but I'm really hoping I don't get tired of our new "Mane" 5 in a couple years like I did with the Mane 6. I love them for the time being and I don't want to feel overwhelmed by main character releases again. Hasbro really need to do better with character balancing.
