Of course worked well enough and best strategy aren't always the same thing. But it also works for Paw Patrol and PJ Masks and all these other kids shows based on a main cast of characters. It could be that unfortunately MLP has morphed into something different.

I don't like how they have individual, detailed teeth. There's a reason most cartoons have just bars for teeth.

Horses have big teeth, it wouldn't look so off putting,  if the G5s didn't have such weird heads.

The trouble is that these ponies are more human than horse! XD Applying horse-logic won't work with these guys lolol

When I first saw the designs of the animated G5 characters, I got excited expecting the toys' design to look more akin to the Retro Rainbow Mane 6 set; FIM-like but with a retro flair, since their character designs and colour schemes gave me a lot more G1 vibes than any of the other sets have.

Oh, how wrong I was :( They look even more cartoonish and anatomically bizarre than the later G4 toys.

On another note, these edits look so amazing and are miles of improvement.

So lo-ong body... Squere backside. Strange eyebrows. And her eyes so close... May be... Something like that can be better?

I did a quick edit of the new toy! The thing that bothers me the most is the skinny neck and the super short snout!
I hope they'll tweak them a bit!

If only they were an ounce of what the final products will look like

Pipp!

The proportions on Pipp look so much better! Maybe styling size Sunny is just and odd ball. There's hope :)

The proportions on Pipp look just as off. The stuffed toy wings are certainly an interesting choice, but not the weirdest we've seen. The toys look to be a good size anyway.

I'm noting in the promotional images that the symbols on the ponies are... very hard to see.. I can see a glimpse of Hitch's and Zipp's but they look to be small and further back on the flank in the rinders?
My DeviantArt, why not drop by and take a look!

Seeing the styling Sunny with better shadows has me warming up to her a bit. Still not a huge fan of the head/neck but her muzzle is slightly more pronounced than what I originally thought. Plus if her hair actually looks like that then it's better than nearly all of G4.

The Pipp is actually really cute, but her head looks kinda dinky lol. I'm really curious to see what the core line looks like.

I wonder if there's even going to be regular sized brushables without articulation in this line.

Thanks for the update!  Pipp looks pretty cute to me.  But the way the head attaches to the neck is still bothering me...its keeping the mane restricted to the head only.  However, they seem to have such ample manes that if you arrange the hair you could cover up that aspect when you display them.
Thanks to Shimmlight for the new avatar image
