Pony Wear vs Historical Attire
« on: December 27, 2020, 12:02:19 PM »
So I love G1 Pony Wear.
And I also love historical sewing. I'm mostly a 1300s and Viking person, but am slowly dipping into regency and edwardian attire.
Today, my youTube recommended videos included this video:
Dressing up in A 1860s Ice Skating Outfit and the colour choices made me absolutely think of the Snow Angels pony wear set :) It's based on an extant garment displayed in the MET of a skating outfit, and it's just... cute, magenta, fur floofed edges... just like the pony set!

And for any likeminded historically interested pony peeps, I just wanted to share. :)

That's really cool! I always wondered what they got some of the inspiration for. Strike up the Band is almost certainly from Freddie Mercury, and the Ponynaut is also a no brainer, but I never thought of Ice Dance/Snow Angels. Nice catch <3.

I suspect some of the sets with jewellery (Movie Star/Lights Camera Action etc) have specific inspiration, but I am not sure what they are.

Right, isn't this set just the sweetest! the mommy+baby sets in general is adorable, but this one in particular has always been one of my favs, and even more so now that I can add this historical bit of inspiration to it :D whether Hasbro was inspired bu the skating get-up @ the MET or not, I don't know but either way - wonderful coincidence int hat case :)

For sure there's some Freddie in there! I'd guess some 30s/40s/50s musicals for some of them? or just ~40s(ish) Hollywood~ theme for those sets :)  Hubby and I hav ebeen on a little bit of a Marx Brothers movie spree over the Holidays and I can totally see the jewellery sets being very 30/40s "diva" Hollywood inspired (in the best way possible). Correct me if I'm wrong tho :)

It's too bad Hasbro didn't go ahead and produce their concepts for Big Brother Pony Wear (I believe these were shown off at HasCon). Then we could've had pony outfits based on Superman and Tarzan.

I absolutely love pony wear and have been trying to collect all of them - or at least all the ones I love (and that is a lot!) Back in early November I did a series of posts where I ranked all the different outfits. I also had polls up and it was interesting to see what other people liked. I'm so happy because I just purchased the Royal Pony and Parade Pizazz outfit from e-bay so once I get them I will have the six original pony wear outfits (those two + Tea Party, Best of the West, Great Skates, and Sweet Dreams) even though my childhood Great Skates outfit is pretty worn down. I have the adult version of the ice skating outfit (Snow Angels), which I have on Sundance and it is absolutely adorable on her. It's weird because back when I was a kid, I had about six pony outfits, but honestly, I could take it or leave it. Maybe I just prefer it now since I have my ponies on display so it's fun to dress them up.

That's such a cool find.  I never would have expected a historical skating outfit to actually be magenta.    And props to her - she really tried that whole outfit, skates and all, out on the ice!
Thanks for sharing.

Those big brother outfits are pretty spiffy, too.  I like the Superman one (Ponyman?  I have questions) best.  I'm laughing at the little drawing of him trying to change in the phone booth that is...clearly human-shaped XD
Thanks to Shimmlight for the new avatar image
