McDonald’s pony customs?

Has anybody tried customizing a McDonald’s pony? How do you work with the hair? Use clay?

Please share your experiences with working with McDonald’s ponies and share photos!

Which gens?
I've not done any personally since the G4 McDonalds ponies aren't mostly brushable hair, but I did take apart a G3 McDonalds. Didn't do anything with her. :P

As far as I know they only made them in g3 & g4? So both!

I have customized two G3 mcdonalds ponies.  They both started with brushable manes and sculpted tails.  I wanted them to have brushable tails as well so here's what I did: used a hacksaw to remove as much of the tail as I could without damaging the legs, then used a utility knife to cut out the rest, then tidied it up with a xacto knife and fine sandpaper.  It wasn't perfect but it came out pretty well - it's kind of out of sight anyway, and I did a full body repaint which helped too. 

I'll try digging up some photos for you, too.

I've made one custom out of a G4 McD's Rainbow Dash :) For the G4s with real tails, pulling them straight out works best. You can use hot water to losen the glue, and if it's real tough, pliers. I cut off most of her mane just using a knife since the plastic is pretty soft. They can also be baked; I used polymer clay for the mane and tail and baked it straight on.

(There are also McD's ponies for all gens, technically. G1 had some variation on the Mommy Charms, G2 had their own, and of course G3 and G4 have theirs.)

My sister and I each customized a McDonald's pony into an ornament for a Christmas swap we took part in years ago.  :) I customized a g4 McD pony and my sister customized a g3 one. I dug up some photos we took before mailing the box.  ^.^ It doesn't show up well in the photos but I added a swarovski crystal into the eye on the one I customized. I didn't freehand the snowflake though, I tracked down micro stickers instead.  :P

I customized a G4 Mc'D toy once.
I went the opposite way and sculpted a solid tail with wire covered in papier mâché and a coat of air-dry clay for better details.
Sorry for the blurry pics. I can't make new ones anymore, I won't be seeing this custom ever again.. Gave it away to an ex-friend.
She's shiny because I forgot to shake the varnish bottle before painting. Shake your bottles before use. lol.
