Disinfecting new pony arrivals

Hello, Pony Arena!!

I'm the proud owner of a 35th Anniversary Moonstone! 

But that's not the reason I'm writing, otherwise this would go on Brags 

Thing is, I clean/disinfect all the things I buy online (more than ever!), but I don't know how to tackle this blueberry-scented, glittery-marked unicorn without accidentally ruining her.

We usually use a rather strong alcohol/spray to clean things, but for one of my recent Zelfs, I opted for cleaning her with hot water and dish soap (Zelf soup ), but I'm afraid for the aforementioned scent (I'd rather keep it) and glitter symbol.

So yeah, how do I make this pony clean and safe to handle without damaging her?

We have a quarantine shelf. Everything sits on the shelf for at least 4 days when it comes into the house.

If you don't want to antibac the pony, maybe put her somewhere for a long period of time to decontaminate on her own. Then you can wipe her down at a later date with something a bit less lethal.

Washing up liquid probably won't hurt her if you're gentle. I don't know about the scent but I've never had basic hand soap damage the scent on a G1 perfumed pony from the eighties before. That may be an option. We have Dove soap but I dunno what your options are.

I'd suggest a washcloth dipped in antibacterial soap, so you can clean around her glitter, flip her upside down to clean her hair, then once she's completely dried, put her in a bag and leave her there for a week.

Unscented soap if you can get it, and I suggest the bag once she's dried too, it'll help her stew in the scent and renew it.
Virus present on the pony would die out in transit anyway, but if it's just for peace of mind, I would definitely stick to a gentle washcloth.

I think I'd personally just leave it somewhere for a fortnight or so. I'd be nervous about altering the scent/glitter with anything.

Just let it sit for 4 days like Taffeta said, Corona virus only lasts 2-3 days on plastic surfaces. (1 On paper and some metals)

Other common bacteria like ecoli and samonella only last about a day outside a host/on surfaces. And the flu virus as well only lasts about a day, HIV only seconds

You may want to invest in a UV light sanitizing wand since this sounds important to you, they are like 50$ on amazon. It only takes a few seconds and the UV light destroys the DNA and/or RNA of many bacteria and viruses and fungi/mold

if you removed it from a sealed box i would just throw the box away. if you're keeping her MIB then i would just leave the box on a shelf for a few days.

personally i'm not really disinfecting everything that comes into the house anymore. mostly because i'm rationing clorox wipes. we're opting to wash our hands after putting away new groceries and touching packages. which we did before covid.
