Sunfading Streaky and other problems
« on: October 24, 2020, 04:01:41 AM »
Hello,

I was hoping someone could give me advice.
I got a G1 streaky with some marks that need to be removed.
One of the marks seems to be some sort of rust. I think that's what it is because I removed some metal flakes from the body and I was left with an orangish mark.
Has anyone sunfaded G1 Streaky before? Has anyone had experience removing rust marks?

I'm also having issues with a g1 quarterback I'm restoring. He had tons of cancer marks so I sun faded him. There are literally 3 marks that don't seem to be going away. I've also noticed when the sun is strong the marks go away, but then they come back even after they have seemingly disappeared. Does anyone have experience with this?

I will post pictures soon. I appreciate any help possible; thanks =)

If the plastic is not stained, I've heard people try CLR or other rust remover to clean out the rust. I've always had good results with oxiclean, or you could use baking soda and scrub. I don't think the rust would sunfade since it's not ink.
I have heard that age spots do return on their own sometimes after fading. I more or less consider these marks permanent so maybe someone who sunfades more often than I can help.
Are you using a hair bleaching cream as well, or just setting the pony out?

In my experience, you can’t sun fade rust stains/discoloration out. As for age spots, they are the plastic breaking down - sun fading doesn’t work on them.

Quarterback is safe to sunfade, however age marks will never truly disappear as it is the plastic degrading over time.
I have had luck with H202 soaks while sunfading, really can lighten yellowing. No peroxide cremes though...
Rusty stuff, I use orange goop or something with a gritty pumice to lighten/remove.
Streaky should be safe to sunfade just remember to cover what you don't need faded. :o)
