Netflix cancels Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance

“We can confirm that there will not be an additional season of ‘The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.’ We know fans are eager to learn how this chapter of ‘The Dark Crystal’ saga concludes and we’ll look for ways to tell that story in the future,” said executive producer Lisa Henson.

I am really, really disappointed. I already know and hate that Netflix cancels most shows willy-nilly. But I didn't think they'd leave Dark Crystal without a conclusion since it was a critical darling and a hit with audiences.
It's nice to hear the Henson Company will somehow wrap up the story, but nothing will be better than a final movie. I don't want no book or comic. We've been through this. Netflix is a huge, rich company and them backing out because an expesnive show is expensive is just ridiculous. They knew what they were in for and they have the money to make more. They just don't want to.

I was really disappointed to hear the show was canceled as well. It is such a masterpiece. I too hope that the way they plan to continue the story will be through continuing the show somewhere else later or through a movie instead of a book or comic. Just wouldn't be the same no matter how well written.

Aww, that’s disappointing.

Sadly, I’ve just come to expect these things. Even before streaming took off, network television has always had a very strong tendency to cancel shows with higher production values. If they can make similar profits from a show that cost a lot less to make, they’ll always take that route. Unfortunately, it seems like that mentality has carried over to streaming TV, even though time slots are no longer an issue.

Sadly, I’ve just come to expect these things.

Technically, I am too. Netflix cancelled my favorite show they had on there a while ago even tho it was produced by Drew Barrymore, reviews were positive and the show was popular. I realize Netflix just wants to make as much money as possible for the higher ups to line their pockets with, but for some reason I expected them to have at least some sense and close DC:AoR as it was their - probably - most artistic endavour so far and kind of elevated their platform.

For some reason Netflix can build an entire mall for Stranger Things, lets all sorts of sketchy people work for them, but ending a Jim Henson project goes too far. It just makes me bitter.

Note that I have no issue with cancellation per se. I have an issue with mistreating promising projects by letting them peter out on a cliffhanger, like tossing them in the garbage. I somehow expect a sliver of integrity, even from a moneyhungry streaming service - because we KNOW they don't have to pinch pennies. This is how you piss off your consumers. I am glad I leech Netflix off of a friend (another thing Netflix says is a big no-no but ha! you give me no content, you get no money).

Probably the Henson Company refused to go lower budget, they were like, you want cute puppets with CGI, this is what it costs. 
I am sure the studio is very affected by COVID19 too, all those puppeteers and crew in small workspaces and things to sanitize.
