Seeking info on prototype g3?

Hey there!

I recently purchased this prototype g3. I paid over $200 for it. I thought it was just a test shot at first or error missing paint however I have shared it on a facebook group and we discovered there is not a single g3 baby like it! It is authentic with pink magnet and head has not been removed. 

Info? Ideas? Thank you!!

Maybe she was an early colour test for ocean dreamer, as her colours are very similar to summer shores, who came in a set with her. She is actually orange, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it was supposed to be like the sister sets (dance around and dance slippers, mochanut and tiramisu) but the idea was scrapped and used then used later on for them. Dance around and dance slippers have yellow prototypes, so it’s not unheard of for ponies to change wildly before release.

I think summer and ocean are supposed to be related, judging by the same fish symbol, just like the later sisters. Maybe they were going to make ocean dreamer look almost identical!

On the other hand, it could just be Hasbro working out colours to use against a white body, or even figuring out baby wave catcher’s final hair colours. Did the seller have any information of when she was made?

I love mysteries like this, and all the possibilities around them. Congrats on your pony. We really don't see that much in the way of prototype G3 stuff in collector hands, and it's a shame, really.

A hair test seems to be a good suggestion.

I know there are some strange things in G1 like this, with painted ponies and resin ponies and different poses or even in the case of the glowing magics, a sparkle pony with uncut glowing pieces in her plastic to test out the science. Seems perfectly possible that they'd do a hair test as well.
