Wild score
« on: August 30, 2020, 10:00:12 AM »
Edit to add Photo
As the years pass, we all know it's harder and harder to find G1s in the wild, with long dry spells between finds.  Well, today I scored four plushs (Firefly, Blossom, Cotton Candy, and Parasol), a flat foot Cotton Candy, baby Peeks or Puddles, and a Windy Wing.

My plush ponies are in storage, and I can't remember who I have, so I probably got some doubles now (Blossom for sure).

I've never been huge into variants, so to me Flat foot or concave hasn't been a huge deal for me, but this Cotton Candy looked great for her age so I got her too.

I already have the windy wing as well, but maybe I can use her in a trade.

Of the Peeks/Puddles twins, I'm missing one, but can't remember which.  So this may be a double too.  But Hey!!!  Wild ponies!  I can't complain!

I can definitely agree that they are harder to find! That is a nice haul! I would love to see some pictures of them if you do end up posting some!

To fellow plush collectors, how do you fix eyes?  On my Lofty, I used black permanent marker.  These new guys need some attention too.  What do you recommend?
Also, the plush Cotton Candy has bad hair.  Do you try to straighten similar to a regular ponies hair?  Conditioner and heat iron?

First things first, congrats on your wild finds!  So hard to do now a days and look at your haul! Nice  :thumb:

I also go with the perm marker for the eyes.  If I ever sell I will disclose that I have done so. I would not do well with paint, and it would look as bad as the scratches.

I have had good and bad times with plush hair. I find that when I straighten the hair with a hot iron on low and conditioner, it gets almost… too straight? It doesn't seem to have the "body" or shine of a plush that has had perfect hair from the beginning, but it will look better then what it was (if I feel I've had to do it).

And there seems to be a difference with ponies as well... my Glory had the most snarled hair I've ever encountered, but with a butt-tonne of  conditioner/fabric softener and an iron on low, it turned out soft/straight enough to be passable, but still not 'shiny'.

My baby Surprise on the other hand, all the conditioner/fabric softener in the world could not make her hair soft. It's still coarse as hell, and after a failed attempt at curling  it, I accepted that it may never be what I want and just braided it.

Good luck with fixing them up.  I sure hope some other Plush collectors comment on this thread so they can give you some good advice, rather than my 'let's see if this works' methods

Congrats, what an awesome (and cuddly) score!

I've fixed up the black parts of plush eyes with acrylic model paints before.  Can't comment on the hair.
Thanks to Shimmlight for the new avatar image
