New Kotobukiya figures on the way!
« on: August 24, 2020, 07:27:40 AM »
Who’s excited? I’m excited! Kotobukiya put out some teaser and concept art for new Equestria Girl figures soon to be released! Not only do we get. Princess Twilight variant, but also Sunset Shimmer, Princess Luna and Princess Celestia! (I expect other fan favorites like Trixie, :muffin: Pony Hooves, Lyra, Vinyl Scratch, Octavia, and Starlight Glimmer will soon follow)
I really want to get Luna and Shimmy!

I want Sunset and the princesses so bad why this. I couldn’t afford any of them in a good year, much less this year. Oh, well.

As I said in the other thread, these aren’t my thing.  But the princess are really tempting!

I notice that Luna has a horn but Celestia doesn’t.  But then Celestia has that really nice suggestion of wings on her sleeves.

It's weird how some of these figs have human skintones and some don't. Sunset looks like a Ganguro
The princesses look pretty nice. I like how Celestia's cutiemark translates into hip chain jewelry.

I think Luna's horn is way too literal. Should have given her a spiky crown. Celestia's "wings" are way better, imo.

I think all normal releases have human skin tones.

So is Sunset Shimmer limited? Because in that picture she looks even more orange than the President of the US.

I mean... his orange skin isn't real? (sarcasm!)

I thought you were talking about LE twilight sparkle.

I wouldn't put it pure fantasy either. One of Applejacks pictures looked more orangey then what she turned out to be. And I remember people debating if Pinkie Pie was going to actually pink when the first reveal happened.

Since it's just a prototype, I wouldn't say she's tied down to that skin tone. The pic says pending license approval. Oooor, she could very well be ganguro. lol. It's one of those things I feel like, wait and see...

Yeah, I was wondering about her skintone, too. Pinkie definitely looked pinker than she actually turned out so it might just be a weird thing with their prototypes or something (or maybe their photographer amps the colours up a bit, lol).

I think Applejack will probably end up looking more like a normal human skintone than shown in the prototype, since yeah Pinkie was a bit similar, looking pretty pink in the artwork, but a human skintone on the figure itself. Especially since the pony color for skin is now one of the "gimmicks" of the limited edition line (along with the glitter hair), I'd think they'd want to make sure normal Applejack ends up having a human skin tone so then they can make her LE have orange skin when they get around to making her.

On the note of limited editions, my limited Pinkie Pie just arrived today! She's very cute, it's fun to have her alongside the normal release (and of course the rest of the normal ones out so far).

one thing I always wonder about- given the high level of quality and detail with these figures- do they look jarring when displayed near the standard MLP toys, such as the brushables and blind bags?

They feel like they fit the rest of my collection to me! Sure their sculpts are more detailed, but the bright colors they naturally have with normal MLP toys makes them look nice with them. I like having them fairly close to my Fan Series figures from Hasbro.
