Imo, there is no reason for a G1 reboot because they can just recycle the characters like they did in - mostly - G4. A reboot of G2 would interest me, tho. It never had a show, only media presence was video games, so coming up with a little story for the G2 royals and their subjects could be fun. You could have new toys and even a slightly tweaked art style. I think it could work if Hasbro gave a single damn about G2, that is ;)

Toywise bring it on! Media wise no thanks. They can just air re-runs.

I see the new furuba as a correction rather than a reboot as it goes back to the source...

You sound like someone who's heard about the unbeatable champion Leon's unbeatable Charizard!  :P

(In all seriousness, I don't think the favoritism in Pokemon is that bad.  Like I feel it's totally justified to have more cameos for Misty and Brock versus . . . that stupid "Science is amazing!" blond kid (Cyrus? Cylas?) who travelled with Ash, because more people DO remember and care about Misty and Brock than Blond Science Kid.)

So my feeling on G1 MLP is I love the retro toys coming out and I enjoy seeing appearances here and there of the ponies in toy form or in story elements.  For example, Cha Cha the Llama being in the recent blind bag assortment--I think that's funny and great.  Or Grogar being rebooted as a G4 villain.

But I wouldn't want a FULL reboot of MLP & Friends or MLP Tales.  I didn't like the world of MLP Tales and I didn't connect with most of the characters from MLP & Friends.

It's worth noting that G4 actually drew from G3 a lot more than G1.  Not that I'm mad about it or anything, I didn't feel like it detracted from the show.  I guess that's my main requirement when it comes to referencing past gens:  just don't make it awkward or intrusive.  Anyway, I'm happy that Skywishes finally got a toy that's a pegasus instead of an earth pony.

Lets Go Pikachu/Eevee
Bringing back the first two trainers in Sun/Moon
Alola Kanto variants
Gigantamax Kanto pokemon
Galarian variants of Kanto pokemon
Reusing the first few episodes as a rebooted kanto movie
Charizard getting many many new forms

Yeah it is getting kinda bad. Ahaha.

I am never going to say no to Alolan Vulpix and Ninetales. I hunted round 3 pokemon centres in Japan before I found a vulpix plush, and then had to lug her all the way from Hiroshima to Shimonoseki and then back to Kyoto on my fieldwork trip in among all my other luggage. And then of course Kyoto got a different one so I ended up bringing two vulpixes and a ninetales back with me. Plus...possibly...some freebie stickers and a couple of keychains <3

I love regular Vulpix/NT too but I really. love. the Alolan ones.

(Although I agree that there are some good pokemon in other generations. Anything in the Oddish or Ralts lines is immediately good with me. Though I feel both lines do get decent game exposure in later gens. I guess because Oddish is a G1 pokemon...

...Maybe that's off topic.

I love the idea of regional forms, etc, I just wish they could showcase a wider variety of Pokemon. One thing Sword/Shield did right was give Galar forms to some non-gen 1 Pokemon, now if only it could be a more even mix instead of just "Gen 1 and, um, also one or two other Pokemon" then we'd really be talking! They got it right with mega evolutions (yeah, Charizard really didn't need two forms, but otherwise I thought the megas showcased a pretty good mix of gens) so idk why they suddenly fell into "gen 1 only" with the next few alt. forms.

Furuba = Fruits Basket, and I agree that's not really a "reboot"... just a new adaptation. I think stuff like Sailor Moon Crystal, the new Tokyo Mew Mew, etc are kind of unnecessary, since in those cases the original animes took the manga and fleshed them out... yeah there were changes, but they still adapted the whole story. They're more of a reboot than something like Furuba, I think.

I love Alolan Vulpix / Ninetales so much.  One of the most beautiful Pokemon.  <3

They started giving other gens regional forms in Sword/Shield, though. I had a Galarian Stunfisk and Zigzagoon on my team.

In terms of the toy, I would love to see something more like what HQG1 is doing.  G1 style design, new characters.

In terms of the show, there are elements of early G1 I would like to see.  Namely a more pastoral/less urban vibe.  More songs!  And while I wouldn’t say no to seeing one or two older characters brought back, like Applejack but not Applejack again*, I don’t need for it to be an entire reboot.

I will admit to imagining what it would be like if RAMC could be made into a full length movie but I’d want it to be in the same style with the same charm.  I’m afraid that any “reboot” would mean flat, highly stylized and “edgy” characters such as has been the trend in animation lately.

*what about Gusty?  She seems to be relatively popular and I wouldn’t mind seeing new Gusty toys.  But I’m mostly thinking as a toy collector and not necessarily as a fan of the cartoon character.

I want something new. Fresh. Horsey. Collectible. Brushable. Needless to say, Hasbro basically gets none of my money these days. Basic Fun and HQG1Cs, however...

I'm not really sure what else I want from G5, other than a move away from the main six/core seven type thing, but I doubt Hasbro will abandon the concept.

The Gen I Pokemon favoritism is beyond ridiculous at this point. Don't even get me started. As someone who got into Pokemon in Gen I, it is not amusing to me for even one second. I feel like they've taken that nostalgia and stomped all over it. I don't have nostalgia when I see Gen I Pokemon anymore, only irritation.

My Little Pony is a different kind of franchise. It's hard to think of what they'd do that would make it comparable. Even an all-out remake of G1 wouldn't be taken as bad by me because MLP is formatted differently - With Pokemon, each new generation builds upon the past ones, with each new MLP generation, it is more of a blank slate. This is why Pokemon has become so annoying about it, because they feature prominently only Gen I when there are so many great Pokemon from the later generations that should be equal in importance.

Plus, MLP brushables have gone a bit astray. I would love another generation of MLPs that is more like G1 or G3... But I am an adult now, not Hasbro's targeted audience. (hopefully they don't target Bronies over us. *sigh*)

I see these topics as two separate things that are already being done by Hasbro tbh. Every generation of MLP is a reboot. While it would be nice if they went closer in spirit to the original for a reboot FIM was such a success I think it will be more likely like FIM. And as for favoritism just look at their overuse of Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash. Which ironically were from the generation that was out around the same time as Pokemon just started in Kanto. Pinkie Pie is basically their Pikachu.

I'm pretty sure that's not the case. I'm fairly certain that Pokemon G1 is concurrent with G2. G3 didn't begin till 2003, but I know I had a GBA and Pokemon Blue in 2000. I also have a feeling that Moon and Sun marked the 20 year anniversary.

...Although the idea of Pinkie as a repetitive and annoying Pikachu, I can understand. It's just not the same timeline.

FIM and the M6 already killed any chance of a proper reboot in G5, and honestly, probably the whole franchise, since quick money is preferred over creativity in the modern world. FIM is kind of evidence of that, with its repeated toys and a series crafted on character stereotypes.

TBH the most fantastical things in FIM tend to be the attempts to force mythical concepts of 'friendship' into each episode.

Pokemon G1 was began in 1996 in Japan, so that puts it right before MLP G2, IIRC. So they are pretty much concurrent, yes. Pokemon was is in Gen 3 when MLP entered G3. Isn't that convenient? :P

As for the reused characters... (this is more for Wardah) Again, it's different in MLP than it is in Pokemon. In Pokemon, the generations build upon each other. Pokemon that existed in previous generations continue to exist in later generations. It's not comparable to MLP. Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie were different characters in G3. The most that can be said is that they're using the designs as a template and going a completely different direction from there.

Of course, there is something to be said about Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash being prominent characters in both G3 and G4. Just... They're very different in each generation.

I like reboots if they can stand on their own as a series. If it depends on the older fans to carry it, it’s not good. Make new content but keep the same feeling is what I like to see. Keep the action and adventure, but perhaps update, introduce or remove content. IMO, if a reboot is just a retelling of the previous, it’s not a new thing.
I love new content based on old things. And it’s nice to slip references here and there. But slip in references to more than just the first generation, and make sure there is enough new stuff that it doesn’t feel like a slap of paint on an old picture. Make a new picture based on the old one, but with its own style and pizazz.
This. Sentence. Is. False! Dontthinkaboutitdontthinkaboutit.
