Widest G1 pose?
« on: July 11, 2020, 04:43:26 AM »
I'm planning on making an engine and train cars for Steamer, and I want to know how wide to make the passenger cars. To that end, I want to know what the widest G1 pose is. At least, as far as standard ponies go; not planning on cramming a Dream Beauty into the train or anything.

Hahahaha, when I first read this I thought you were making Steamer himself be the engine!!  With other ponies following behind him as the cars!   I need a nap maybe...

I wonder if Sundance's pose might be the widest?  Or Lofty?  It might depend how deep the cars are.
Thanks to Shimmlight for the new avatar image

I would say Lofty pose unless you're going to allow in pocket ponies and secret surprise, who are much larger.

I am not sure if the brother ponies have a wider stance either.

Crumpet's pose is probably wider than the shy pose would be. That would probably look over the top of a low car, so I agree depth is important.

has anyone thought to measure their ponies?  :enthralled:
my party time ( i dont have lofty or anybody in her pose)  is 2 inches from outside edge of hoof->outside edge of hoof. I measured chief too, and he's about 2 1/4 inch from hoof to hoof. their hips are barely a smidge wider than their fronts.

I appreciate you putting in the effort of measuring. Thank you for that.
However, hoof to hoof measurements only tell so much.

As far as depth goes, I'm talking full-fledged enclosed passenger cars. So the poses I'm concerned about width-wise are poses like the Bow-Tie Pose, where the head is turned to the side. Measured from NDS outside hoof edge to outermost edge of face, that one's almost 3" wide.

I'd guess that technically, the Big Brothers and Mountain Boys would be the widest of all ponies because they're slightly larger in general. Otherwise, perhaps yes Crumpet or the Rapunzel pose (the poses with splayed legs) for width and Posey / Lickety Split for length for non pocket/SS ponies. What a fun idea! I hope you share progress :)
