Question on re-pinking hair

I've been looking at the highlighter method, but I'm wondering if anyone has tried using alcohol based ink markers?

I used alcohol based ink markers for a project and they don't last long if you wash the pony's hair afterwards. And I'd never leave pony's hair unwashed because the ink may stain the pony body.
