Has anyone used any kind of alternative hair types besides the usual nylon/saran/poly/etc that is usually used?

I use yarn for my customs. Nylon hair is hard to get.

I've used embroidery thread a few times.  Separated into one strand per plug I think.

I re-haired this Sunny Daze with the rope handles that come on G3 packaging.

I've also seen customs made with real horse hair, though I don't own any or have photos..

Yarn, roving (for needle felting), tinsel, the kind of rope used for curtain tiebacks and butchered wigs and extensions have all been used :)

Thanks SunPony and OrangePeachMango!  Poor Sunny Daze had almost all of her mane and tail cut off.  If anyone tries to re-hair with the rope handles, I found that the medium-longer ones work the best.

I love that real horse hair custom pony.  :D

I've used a good many of the things previously mentioned, but I think mohair was my favorite and most loathed non-traditional hair. It turned out sooo beautiful and soft but was such a major pita that I nearly gave up on her multiple times.
