Peppermint Crunch with differently coloured symbols?
« on: June 05, 2020, 05:12:22 PM »
Today, I've come across two ebay listings of Peppermint Crunch with a differently coloured symbol on her right side. Instead of pink it looks like it's more or less her body colour (some kind of aqua / mint green) or possibly light grey. First I thought somebody probably painted her cone that way, but when I saw another listing with the same aqua/mint/grey cone on her right side I came to the conclusion that this might be a factory error.

Has anybody any more info on this? I checked MLW but there is no mention of a differently coloured cone.

Sounds like it could be faded if it's greyish? I feel like symbol paint gets a little transparent when it's faded too (though I'm really not sure lol). Do you have pics?

I first thought of that as well, but as the symbol is still pink on one side I don't think it's faded.

These are the auctions:

It looks like her eye paint is faded on the appropriate side. Her eye is not as faded on her left.

My guess is she was displayed on a shelf or windowsill for a very long time, and got direct sunlight on that one side.

I think you're both right, in both listings her right eye looks faded as well. I have to admit I didn't even notice that, I thought if she was exposed to sunlight on one side over a longer period of time then also her body would be unevenly faded, but that doesn't seem the case. It's difficult to tell from these photos though, as the lighting isn't very good on all of them.

It could be fading, or batch - remembering there are HK and CHina versions of this set.

But fading sounds likely with those colours.

some vinyl colors are more susceptible to fading than others :+) white vinyl fades and yellows very easily, but shes a rather odd green-teal color, and so opaque, it probably doesnt fade much at all. Plus, there may be more noticeable demarcation on her body when seen in person. In any case, the paint is more vulnerable to fading than the vinyl on anypony.

It's fading . . . I'll bet one side of her was exposed to a window for a long time. :)  That color of pink symbol paint is notorious for fading to a periwinkle / light purple / light blue.

Some of the other ponies it can affect:

Peachy
Heart Throb
Baby Crumpet
TAF Fifi
Scoops

And some others, I'm sure.

I had a Scoops who had this fading, she looked really cool!

Thank you for your expert thoughts on this Taffeta, orangepeachmango and LadyMoondancer! So it's definitely faded and just a coincidence that both ponies' right side symbols are faded then. I never exposed my Peppermint Crunch, Peachy and Heart Throb to sunlight, so their symbols are still pink. Nor any other ponies for that matter, so I had no idea the paint on the symbols fade much more quickly than the vinyl. I learn something new every day here.  :)

I saw photos of a faded Scoops here on the Arena not so long ago, perhaps you posted them LadyMoondancer? I wasn't familiar with that pony before, so I looked her up on MLW and I have to say I prefer your faded version!
