Questions about Sun fading G2s
« on: April 28, 2020, 02:58:16 PM »
Question for pony folks experienced in pony restoration-- I always see helpful posts, videos, and tutorials about sun fading G1 ponies but I've never seen one about doing it for a G2. Does anyone know if sun fading works on G2, too?

I'm planning on trying sun fading for the first time on my G2 variant Lady Satin Slipper:

(she's way more yellowed than she appears)

Any advice?

*EDIT*
Here’s a better picture:

(from left to right): dainty dove with glued on rhinestones that I want to use first to test sunfading out, my yellowed variant Lady Satin Slipper, my regular white Lady Satin Slipper for comparison.

And follow-up question, is it safe to sun fade translucent ponies? I have a baity Miss Gadget/Hip Holly and I want to conduct an experiment to see if I can get her to more closely resemble her magazine counterpart:

Would trying to sun fade her be a bad idea?

I think your pictures got ate.
I think if you monitor her closely, you should be ok, but be warned that if you forget about her there may be spooky consequences.
Translucent ponies can be sunfaded, but they should be closely watched.

I would assume they would be similar as G1s. Just keep an eye on them and make sure you protect what you dont want faded.

Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean?  ^^; Are the pictures under the spoiler tag not showing up for others?

Huh. I’m not sure what’s going on ᖍ(ツ)ᖌ to be honest, this is the first time I’m trying to post pictures. Can anyone else confirm if they are visible or not?

I also see your pictures.

Be sure to cover up the light pink parts Lady Satin Slipper's hair or I think it will fade, too. My Lady Satin Slipper is also horribly discolored but I haven't gotten around to sunfading her yet.

Good luck :)

Sadly I haven't gotten around to sunfading all the discolored G2s I have yet, though I may have whitened my Princess Sapphire at one point with sunfading, I actually can't remember for sure . If I did it turned out great and only took a few days. I have tried sunfading a couple with marker on them - a Drifter that turned out nicely and a Lady Cupcake that didn't take at all.

I just realized that my Lady Satin Slipper is the same as your discolored one. I didn't know mine was a variant! (Or that there was a variant). Is the one with red tinsil more common than the one with pink tinsil? Maybe the pink tinsil variant is more prone to discoloring?

The pictures are showing up now! Weird.
I would definitely watch out to make sure the sun doesn't burn the plastic. I would maybe try hydrogen peroxide as well to whiten up the plastic, but you definitely wanna watch it closely.
