Things to do in self isolation!
« on: March 18, 2020, 08:52:02 AM »
Friends, are you in self isolation and ran out of things to do? This thread is meant to provide ideas to beat boredom!

Start or continue your customs!
Clean your house, like a deep clean or those things you always tend to forget about!
Go through your things! Put aside clothes you don't wear anymore, maybe search your attic, stuff like that!
Rearrange your ponies!
Style ponies!
Draw things! Maybe an oc you haven't drawn in a while, or maybe draw some interior decorating!
Do a virtual clean up and organisation! Get rid of files you don't need, create folders for things and put them away for easier organisation!
If you have a pile of stuff to sell, tidy them up, take pics and list them!
Photograph your collection, or the ones you really like!
Learn to sew or do sewing! Make a cute frilly dress for your favorite pony maybe!
Play the new animal crossing game!
Look through old photos and maybe transfer to a digital platform!
Organise your surroundings! Maybe just your room, maybe make up drawer, ect.
Play a game on your steam account.
Make wishlists! Of the ponies you want, acessories you need, upgrades or even of other things like Barbies or those early 1900's troll gnome things.
Make sure to do any uni/school work though!
Daydream!
Plan out things you'd like to do in your future! Maybe moodboards, talking to another being about it or write it out on a word doc!
Search up your name/username and look at the results!
Do the Florida man challenge!
Contemplate your life choices.
Watch an anime/read a manga you've been meaning to or need to catch up with.

Any other recommendations from friends are appriciated!

Tabletop Simulator has been a valuable game for my online friendships, and I'm sure that can extend to real life friends you might not be able to meet up with. You can download lots of pre-made games or make your own.
eBay is poppin' right now, so definitely list stuff if you have anything. I think it's a good time to finally do some grudge work around the house and clean your windows.
If you have any fresh fruit or vegetables, plant the seeds and see what happens!
Read a really long fanfiction.
Make videos analyzing your favorite media or talking about that fanfiction.
Clean your pony stash. Pick some ponies to curl hair or give a little makeover.
Get bold with some paint!
Learn some new software or a new skill in that software.
Play against me in Them's Fightin' Herds.

I'm not in self isolation yet but work has been cancelled for at least another week.

I will probably be watching a lot of anime, talking about anime etc..

I have several manga books I haven't read.

I also have some diamond painting kits I haven't started yet.

I have a lot of adult coloring books that I can color in.

If someone else is stuck at home with you, board games can be a good way to pass the time!

There's some really fun ones out there...

I've only started playing them so I'm not sure I'm able to make great suggestions. But https://boardgamegeek.com/ is a place you could go to research.

Maybe if other people are into these things, I'll just compile a large list here :) I'll start with the ones I own, and then if I think of others I've played at the local game shop I'll add them. I'll try to add links when I get the time.

I prefer laid back games, and nothing too extreme with competition. ^_^

BOARD GAMES
co-op  player games:
2-4p Pandemic... (ha)
2-6p Flashpoint
1-4p Burgle Bros
2-7p Captain is dead (this one is great, but intense. don't start out with it).
3-6p Betrayal at house on the hill
2-7p Mysterium
2-5p hanabi (i enjoy this with more than 2 players. also i enjoy the tile version.)

competitive 2+ player  games
1-5p argicola
2p agricola:all creatures big and small
2-4p takenoko - CUTE PANDA!
1-4p sagrada
2-5p tokaido (would be better 3+ since 2 players need to control a third player).
2-6p nico burger (silly japanese stacking game)

I posted this earlier this month in a thread about just generally being at home all the time so I'll put it here too with some new additions

* Youtube, literally any subject you enjoy is on there. You could watch/do exercises and yoga, diy arts and crafts. I personally enjoy PBS Eons and Space Time channels
* Drawing, painting, adult coloring books
* Reading books, manga, fanfiction, blogs
* Writing a story
* Journaling, daily journal, positivity journal etc
* Making collages
* Cleaning the house, or ponies
* Organization of rooms, drawers, shelves, one area at a time
* Video games, console, pc or app
* Learning a new language, coding, trade or craft
* Curating an Instagram
* Doing make up looks
* Building dioramas or displays for toys and collections
* Cooking and trying new recipes, meal planning and prepping
* Creating your own blog or youtube, I found blogging very rewarding in the past and I just wrote about my hobbies
* Get penpals and write emails (I changed from snail mail because we should give postal workers a break)
* Mediation
* Make a Vision board
* Plan a future vacation, look up sights restaurants etc. Create a Google map for them
* Pick out a time frame and location to study the history of it
* Call loved ones you don't often see
* Look up ways to serve your community during this time
* Organize digital photos
* Play with your dog, cat, pets

I would also add to this some info about creating structure and routine. I'm a health coach and many of my clients are struggling with working from home, not working, having kids home etc and the impact on their routine. So I'd recommend:
* Create a new hourly schedule for yourself
* Use a calendar to schedule in work, breaks, meal prep/cooking, exercise etc
* Find things to do as a family like a YouTube exercise video or science experiments
* Set reminders on your phone for walking (around the house or your block) and stretching
* Set time limits on social media, and set time allotments for things like cleaning, creating, etc
* Have a set cut off time for work, just because you are at home and continue to work do not

I'm not in isolation yet.  Still going to work actually, but I have plans for in case it happens.  I've already cleaned my living spaces so I'll just have to keep up on laundry.

Puzzles
Scrapbooking
Painting
Writing (got a few Nanowrimo novels I could work on)
Reading
Working on some custom ideas
Working on my Couch to 5K challenge on the treadmill
Watching "Chuck" for the first time (everyone keeps telling me how awesome it is, I just haven't had time to watch)

Honestly, I've got enough projects going that unless I run out of supplies, I could keep myself busy for months and still not be all done.

I have to manage coralling overly independent over 70 year old parents with underlying health conditions into my day (we are making small progress on the using of tissues instead of hankies, well done Dad, and the not putting hands all over faces, keep going Mum, and the yes we do need to wash our hands when we've been on the bus...) but yeah, whether I can keep them in hand for the whole 12 weeks of the current advised voluntary shielding is questionable.

HOWEVER we are allowed to go for walks because we live in a not very congested area and it's possible to keep distance between people so we are going to do that. It is good for all of us.

Adding to the list - getting outside as much as you can without breaching the lockdown is important for your health - one reason things transmit so much in winter is being inside all the time. If you have a garden, spend time in it. I'm definitely going to focus some of my time on that and suspect Dad will as well.

The biggest issue is the one mentioned above for me and that's structure. The less I can do the less I generally get done. But we have a lot of sorting projects to go through, and I've also got some writing things I want to work on as well. There are anime series to catch up on and TV shows, too. Books to read. Etc.

Loving the suggestions being made so far as well.

I'm keeping in touch with friends online but because many of my uni friends live in other countries we have different time zones to deal with. But it would be amazing to have some kind of online activities as well with people...if just to communicate with people OTHER THAN my parents for the next three months -.-.

Not a whole lot for me to do... I can draw more I guess? Things like cleaning and redoing my journals are easy to do in a single day, I can't really keep myself busy like everyone else. :huh: I don't have anything to play or watch. People keep talking about their backlogs they can finally work on but I'm not one who really... likes anything to have a backlog. XD I haven't watched a show start to finish in years and the last game I bought was Mario Odyssey. I just don't like anything and I'm not open to trying anything because I know that I just don't click with most things. Why bother trying to watch a show that doesn't interest you within the first five minutes?

I'd like to learn a new skill and try out crafting but not only do I not have supplies, I'm not allowed to have anything messy in my room... not even drinking water!

Luckily Animal Crossing comes out soon...

I am technically not quarantined, but since I work from home and there's still enough food in the kitchen for another week or so I basically haven't left home since Sunday (although I'm planning to go out for a moment in the morning to catch some fresh air and see if the nearby gas station has any hand sanitizer) and when I'm not busy working I mostly just watch YouTube or something on DVD, I also have the first six seasons of The Simpsons and all episodes of Dexter's Laboratory on my PC. I was also thinking about finally doing something with my ponies' hair, but I always feel too tired or too lazy for that.

I’m not quarantined.

Well I’m still taking the dog out with my mum (till my dad and brother get home, or maybe not because the might have to go into isolation).

When my new re root tool comes I’m going to be doing my ponies hair, and making my own Princess Ponies.

Playing games on my iPad

Watching Disney +

I've been listening to my favorite podcasts and playing Breath of the Wild - mostly just waiting until Animal Crossing comes out to have something to do. We have a couple reported cases around here so I'm doing my best to be safe and stay indoors.
