Stinky plastic smell?
« on: March 09, 2020, 11:20:13 AM »
I picked up a couple g1 ponies secondhand, and they look to be in good clean condition, but the plastic is kind of stinky - I don't think its smoke damage, it just smells strongly like aged rubber/plastic. I haven't run into this before, at least not strong enough that it bothered my nose - anyone here have ideas on how to reduce the smell?

I wonder if it's the plastic breaking down?

I usually wash with dawn dish soap and let things sit outside for awhile for any sort of smells. I had. It's worked for different smelly ponies that I've gotten in the past.

That kinda plastic does absorb smells. Could be from something it was stored in or near?

I have a bag of ponies like this that smell of chemicals/plastic degrading. I think it's due to the Crunch Berrys scent, it seems to have "gone bad" and made the others stored with her smell chemically. I washed them and it didn't help. I have the Edgar out in the open air and the other 4 together in a plastic bag in the closet.

Edgar seems to be reducing in smell while the others arent. Maybe they just need to be wired out? It's been about a year or so since I got these ponies

A good start would be to clean them, inside and out. Wash their hair, everything. Then let them dry out thoroughly in their beheaded state. It should help. There are other steps that you can take afterwards but ensuring that your ponies are as clean as possible should always be your starting point.
