Eww no. Sometimes fantasy and sci-fy work as long as one element is used unobtrusively, but mixing them together is usually less like experimenting with new herbs and spices in your stew and more like using ketchup for frosting on your cake.

I'm not into Transformers but this doesn't really surprise me as a crossover. The two are after all Hasbro's biggest flagship brands. I don't know if I'll be buying and reading it, but it does sound amusing.

I've gotta say, I agree with one of the commenters on that link, this seems to have come several years too late It's more the sort of thing I would've expected to come out at the height of FiM's popularity.

The same thing happened with another of my fandoms, though (Adventure Time - people were begging for an AT/Regular Show crossover for *years* and when they finally did it, most people had moved on), now I come to think of it.. funny how that happens, must be a crossover thing Well, I'm just hoping we'll get some fun toys out of it all. I'm not really a TF person and I don't care for FiM, so this isn't really "for" me anyway.

Eh, if I want an MLP/TF I'll take My Little Transformers. Toys from different franchises work well to blend things together that shouldn't.

 I honestly don't think these two could work on a professional level because they're so different in tone and genre.

I think it could work because Transformers has never been a "hard sci fi" universe.  Quite a few gens do have mystical aspects or just straight out magic.  (At one point G1 Beachcomber turned into a mermaid in the Sunbow show.) 

Plus the Transformers meet weird aliens all the time, to them talking horses are probably no stranger than humans.

I think MLP x Transformers will actually work better than G.I. Joe x Transformers, which they keep trying to make happen. G.I. Joe is too mundane compared with giant transforming robots.  MLP is weird enough to make it a more equal partnership, if that makes sense?

I also think an 80s Jem crossover would work with TF.  Some kind of battle of the bands thing between Blaster and Soundwave where they recruit the Holograms / Misfits.

I think TF would work well with MASK.

And it is true that Transformers have done some fantasy themes, (I love Sea Change alot) but some of the other ones, like the obligatory Atlantis ep and the singing power elves and the Decepticon in King Arthur's Court were...um...not very good. Or well regarded.
