What cartoons are you watching rn?
« on: January 16, 2020, 10:59:15 AM »
Just wanted to have a cartoon discussion thread similar to the anime one.
Only rule: please don't use this thread to bash cartoons other people want to talk about in peace. And yes, I know y'all hate "bean mouth style". It is known

So I love me some cute little cartoon about talking animals. Big surprise on this forum! Last year I learned of 101 Dalmatian Street being in the works and I had been looking forward to it ever since. It's a high energy slice of life cartoon and I love the zany characters, especially Dolly (I usually end up loving female characters that aren't required to be girly). I wish I could have Dolly irl, I love active dogs that are a little demanding XD
Not too much to talk about since the show doesn't have an ongoing plot (so far).
I quite like the stylized look of the dogs and that they kept the rough outlines as a nod to the Disney movie where they often didn't clean up the lines thanks to budget cuts, resulting in a sketchy look.

Another Disney show, The Owl House. The first episode has been released and it's pretty much a spiritual successor to Star VS Evil (which I quite loved). It's about a little girl, Luz, who gets sucked into a magic world full of demons. She meets a witch and her enchanted demon friend and becomes her apprentice.
I am very interested how this one will go, especially because it looks promising in terms of epic plot. It has quite some magical girl elements. Anyone seen this yet?

Steven Universe is back with a new season and sadly I guess I am no longer a fan because only the first episode did something for me. Probably because Jasper was in it and she's my fave. Justice for her, etc.
But honestly, I would have been fine if the show would have been over after the movie. It just went into a direction I don't like anymore. Steven is way too powerful and adored by the Diamonds and I just dislike him now as a protagonist. It's like watching a show about Jesus.

Right now I'm watching Gargoyles with my husband. I either wasn't into it, wasn't allowed to watch it or both when it was on the air but I've been thoroughly enjoying it now! We're about to start season 3. I've also been watching season 1 of Freakazoid and been slowly watching Legend of the Three Caballeros. After we finish Gargoyles, I think we might be starting on the new Duck Tales since we had a discussion not too long ago about how we should.

I wish there was a reboot of Gargoyles. I rewatch it every few years. Demona <3 I think it aged really well, too.

Same. I like Goliath, Demona, Brooklyn and the evil Goliath clone Thailog(sp?). I also like Talon the panther mutant. I could go on with this list of chars I like lol and all the rich and deep storytelling. I can easily see how well deserved its popularity is.

I've been watching a lot of anime recently but I won't list those here since this thread is just for cartoons.  :P

I enjoy a lot of different cartoons. Naming just a few

Miraculous Ladybug

original Ducktales (I've tried the new version but can't seem to get in to it yet.)

Jem

Franklin (not the newer Franlkin and friends)

Sofia the First. This was one of my favorite newer Disney cartoons. I wish they hadn't ended the series.

Do not laugh at me but I have been watching Thomas & Friends.

In Welsh.

I haven't lost my mind, just Welsh was the first language I ever really encountered as a kid outside English and I always wanted to learn it. But I've never had the time really to mess with it, or the means. Now there are apps and my PhD is finished, I figured I'd play around with it. Watching kids cartoons on S4C seems a good way of doing listening practice xD. Hence Thomas in Welsh.

Should also mention that one of my earliest on holiday memories is watching kids cartoons in Welsh in a cottage in Dyffryn Ardudwy when I was five, so that may be another reason this method feels nostalgic. Although Spot the dog (Smot y ci) no longer airs, Thomas does! And a lot of the words I remember from trips to wales as a kid relate to railways (we travelled by train) or things in the series (locations like beaches or stuff like that) so it just makes sense. I think we were in Wales every summer till I was 13, so yeah.

What a fun idea for a thread!
I've decided after deep diving into the Ed Edd n' Eddy fandom I should finally watch the show all the way through. I didn't love love it as a kid but I could see why I sat through it, it's really entertaining especially now. I'm only a few episodes in and I've decided to split it up (I cannot binge) to retain it better.
I'm super excited for Pony Life to finally come out. My friends recommended Kitty is Not a Cat to me after I lamented about the lack of cat-based cartoons, so I might start on that soon.
I plan to watch the Owl House but I'm not going super out of my way to do so, I'll try to catch it on TV at some point.

I forgot to add I watched the first two eps of Thundercats Roar and it's funny. It's an affectionate parody of the original just like I expected so I won't twist my panties over "wrong portrayal". Also I never liked Lion-O so seeing him as a childish doofus is like eating candy to me XD Dude aged in seconds, we all knew he should realistically be a kid in a man's body.

It's a fun show! But why would you deep dive into its fandom. Save yourself, girl.
I hope it is less... gross than it used to be back when it aired. I was kinda put off when I found out Rebecca Sugar, creator of Steven Universe, used to be an Edhead and draw explicit fanart of the kid characters.

I used to keep up with almost everything on the big three kids networks, but scaled back last year because I don’t have the energy for it anymore. I still usually flip through listings and put on whatever is on, but my favorite current shows are Hilda, Summer Camp Island, 44 Cats, and Bluey. And as far as upcoming stuff goes, I’m looking forward to It’s Pony on Nickelodeon and Pony Life. Pikwik Pack on Disney Junior looks cute. As for stuff that’s no longer in production, I’ve been watching the CGI Maya the Bee series as the official YouTube channel uploads the episodes. I’m also planning to revisit PB&J Otter when it hits Disney+.

Just rewatching Futurama over and over. It's hard for me to get into new shows for some reason.

Nobody laugh, but I’m watching Barbie Dreamhouse Adventures, so good.

Plus watching Animals of Farthing Wood again, and boy oh boy I cried when the hedgehogs died.

I've also been watching season 1 of Freakazoid and been slowly watching Legend of the Three Caballeros.

aaa, another Cabs fan! :frolic: *high five* It's so rare to find people that have even heard of it... I adore Legend, I wish Disney would advertise it more (or... at all). I hope it gets a second season.

I gave Steven Universe Future a go - I've pretty much hated the last few seasons/the movie, so I hadn't planned on watching Future (honestly, the only reason I kept up with the original show for as long as I did is a) I used to watch it with a pal and b) I figured "I'm close enough to the end of the show, might as well keep going"), but then it aired over here earlier than I expected and, well, it caught me at a time where I was willing to give it a chance ;) Honestly, I just found it boring, for the most part. Couldn't get worked up about it either way. I'm not going to bother watching any more of it. I used to love SU, but MAN it really went downhill after a while... I hate the "everyone is friends! :3 they just need to say sorry and it's all okay!" thing they went with.

I finished rewatching Rocko's Modern Life a few weeks ago (love that show), and I've been meaning to catch up with We Bare Bears for months now. Sort of fell off the wagon, there. I love that show, but it was starting to get a bit.. repetitive... hopefully it was just going through a slump. I wonder when the movie/Baby Bears spinoff will be released... can't honestly say I'm excited for the spinoff (I LOVED the Baby Bears eps at first, but then they became WAY too formulaic and plentiful... although maybe the spinoff means there'll be less Baby Bears eps in the main show? which would be a welcome change at this point, lol), but, we'll see how it goes...

I'm eagerly awaiting Adventure Time: Distant Lands! And I'm still wondering if there's going to be a movie for The Amazing World of Gumball or not. The creator keeps teasing it, but it's difficult to tell if he's being serious or not... that weird clip show thing they did in December did feel awfully like it was thrown together as filler to tide the fans over between the show and something else, but idk...

I think that's about it. I haven't really been keeping up with new shows, most of them just haven't grabbed me, lately...

My bootleg entire Aladdin series... yaaaay! Flintstones on occasion because they're on regular broadcast.
I don't have cable, plus no internet=I watch what I've got on dvd/vhs.
I really love my Grimm's Fairy Tales vhs (and I really need to search for more); those of you 80's children will remember the show (it is more in the style of 70's anime).
