I unfortunately don't have any of my childhood ponies anymore, although I have replaced a couple of my favourites. Off the top of my head, my sister and I had...
Either Snuzzle or Peachy, can't remember precisely
Two Posies (although we called them both 'Tulips')
Baby Up, Up and Away
Majesty
Windy
Baby Sleepy Head
Pink Dreams
Cherries Jubilee
A miniature Silver Swirl from MacDonalds and her castle
And another mini MacDonalds G2 pony that I can't remember her name but she was hot pink with light purple hair and a sun symbol, she also came with a groovy little hot air balloon!
There may have been more ponies that I've forgotten, but those ones are clear in my memory. :)

I had one of the g3 castles as a kid, and a handful of ponies, I can remember Seaspray, Beachberry, Romparooni, and the December jewel pony. I plan on regaining them along with all the other ponies I want. Regaining childhood toys or identifying them fills me with such a good feeling!

Between my first pony Windy at Christmas 1984 and sometime in 1993 I had 68 ponies, which includes 2 petites and a mummy charm, who I counted in the tally. Some were second hand. Many were presents. I'm not going to try and list them, but here is a photo xD.

Some highlights in there are the three Mountain Boys, Gypsy, who came from a school fete second hand, and 7 Character Bright Eyes who I got on holiday in Wales in 1992. In terms of playsets I had Lullabye Nursery, Dream Castle and the Dance School.

They still all live with me, largely because when I thought I was fed up with ponies in 1993 (starting secondary school) my mother advised putting them in the attic and thinking about it, rather than getting rid of them. And so they stayed. I think they were only in storage about 9 months before they came down again and pony hunting began anew...through clearance stores and second hand sales.

I still have mine, all packed away in totes.  I have the buildings, too, still with their boxes (assuming they didn't get destroyed when the roof started leaking).  My buildings and accessories are still at the ex's house, since he stayed with the kids when we divorced.  I took my ponies, the ones I could safely transport.  I have 6 smaller totes full of them, mostly years 2-7, I think?  Some mail orders, but not all.  I had all of them at one point, but sold off the ones that weren't "mine," as I didn't have an attachment.  I had Sweet Scoops at one point, and Rapunzel...but not "my" ponies, so I didn't care about selling them.  The UK/foreign ponies, too...some of them were absolutely adorable, but again, no attachment.

I still have my original Lemon Drop, Twilight and Firefly ponies, even though I have upgraded.  I just can't bring myself to get rid of those girls, even with their issues.  LD had her saddle and bridle on for over 15 years when I found her, and the pink bled into her body and head.  Twilight and Firefly were just very familiar with the cloud shower from the Waterfall set, and their glitter is almost gone from their symbols.  I found good upgrades, but my original girls are still in the herd.

Not sure what I'll do with them, but for now, they are safely tucked away, right where I know where they are. :)
Thanks to Whippetluv for my awsome persona pony!!

I didn't have ponies when I was little. Fie, woe is me! I was all about Ty Beanies.
My girlfriend had ponies though; looking through her childhood collection is what got me into ponies :). She was born in 1993 in the UK and had lots of second-hand G1s and a couple of new G2s. Also loads of fakies and horses from other toy-lines.
We found a photo from 2001 which shows most of the childhood ponies in the middle of a game: https://imgur.com/a/W7Qn9E6
Her favourites were Little Flitter, Wind Whistler, Sweetstuff, Baby Tippytoes, Lickety-Split and Applejack, and the ones she really wanted but didn't have were Heartthrob, Ribbon and Baby Lickety-Split. She also had some of the cartoons on VHS, the UK Factfile and a set of UK annuals.
She also had the Show Stable, Grooming Parlour and Kitchen, but she got rid of those when she was older. Luckily she kept all the ponies!

Looking back at my collection, I have to wonder why I chose the ponies I did. Was I drawn to their colors? Their name? Their symbol? There's only a few I remember picking out or receiving for my birthday/Christmas.

My collection included:

Applejack
Bow Tie
Cotton Candy
Lemon Drop - these were all given to me for Christmas; the first ponies in my collection

Along with Lemon Drop and the Show Stable, I also had the following ponies that came with a play set:

Majesty and the Dream Castle
Baby Tiddlywinks and the baby nursrey
Sprinkles and the Waterfall
Scoops and the Ice Cream Shoppe
Fifi and the Beauty Parlor

I only remember getting the ice cream shoppe for my 7th birthday, but I have no doubt I got the others either for other birthdays or Christmas. Speaking of birthdays, I also had the Pony Park Pack with Party Time, Best Wishes, Yum Yum, Baby Frosting, and Celebrate and I'm pretty sure I got that for my birthday, because, c'mon.

Medley

Sparkler - So I actually remember picking out Sparkler at the store. I must have been 4 or 5. I was with my family on a summer vacation (probably Lake Okaboji) and I remember my dad taking me to a small toy store (I'm sure my brother was there too) and he must have told us we could pick out one toy because I went straight over to where the MLPs were hanging on a wall and Sparkler was the one I chose that day. I don't remember why I chose her in particular or who else was an option for me to take home that day.

Baby Moondancer
Baby Glory
Ember (blue) - I remember getting her in the mail!
Button (SS) - I *think* she was a birthday present, but not positive about that
Surprise (SS)  - I *know* she was birthday present because there's photographic proof of me holding her on my sixth birthday.

Hippity Hop - She was a Christmas present.

Bangles - I must have gotten her as a gift. I say this because I don't think I would have picked her out myself because she looks so similar to Buttons (both same coloring and are so-soft unicorns; they were sisters when I played with them).

Lofty
Paradise - She was an Easter gift from my parents. I'm sure they got her because she had the bright red hair like I did as a child.

Fizzy - Got her the same birthday as Surprise.
Galaxy
Tic Tac Toe
Baby Tic Tac Toe
Baby Ribbon
Hollywood - I remember getting her in the mail, too.
Forget-Me-Not
Tropical Breeze

Ripple - This must have been a gift because I don't think I would have picked out a sea pony because they were never my thing. Her and Celebrate (from the party pack) were the only sea ponies I had and they just pretty much stayed in the (dry) pool of the Paradise Estate.

Baby Sundance and Molly - Got this as a Christmas present.
TAF Sundance and Megan - I remember buying this with my allowance. I ALWAYS wanted Megan and Sundance, whether it was the original or So Soft version, but I just never got the chance b/c they were always sold out or something. So even though I prefer those two versions to the TAF, I took my chance when I saw it just so I would finally have a Megan and Sundance added to my collection. (Plus Molly needed her big sister!)

Steamer - Got him as a birthday present.
Baby North Star
Nibbles and Dibbles
Zig Zag - another birthday present.
Princess Pristina - I remember picked her out at the store; I'm sure I was drawn to her gorgeous colors.

Peppermint Crunch
Sherbet
Curly Locks - I think she was a gift. I say this because I had curly hair as a child and I can see my parents or a relative thinking a pony called "Curly Locks" would be a great pony for me.

Romper (I'm sure I had her and Hippity Hop as best friends!)
Floater
Baby Graffiti

Shoreline - I remember getting her at the store, then coming home immediately and going outside in my backyard (must have been sunny that day) to see if her hair changed and it did!

Dainty Dahlia
Baby Splashes

Yoyo - I remember being at Toys R Us with my older brother, his friend, and his friend's mom. The mom had bought something for her son and my brother and told me I could also pick something out. I saw newborn pegasus pony Yoyo and fell in love. I remember showing her to my next door neighbor who only owned a few ponies and she also got a Yoyo of her own!

Tap Dancer
Baby Snookums
Posey Rose
Hulu Hula
Pony Bride

While I didn't own the following ponies, I remember them quite fondly from my childhood because I had a friend who owned them so we played with them when I was at her house: Wind Whistler, SS Gusty, Ribbon, SS Lickety Split, SS Heart Throb. She also had the Baby Dance Studio so I'm sure she also had a few baby ponies.

and Mail order Birthflower September

My memory is fuzzy on which I had and which I didn't but I stopped around the middle years. I never picked it back up  until the last two ponies I beleive I had about maybe 100 ponies at the time:
Twinkler
and Curly Locks
I kept Twinkler and Curly locks and got rid of the rest. I was going through the Teen phase and was "too cool" for ponies. :/ I never put them in a box somewhere and left them. Theres alot of things I regret that I gave away but this was the main one. That and I did get rid of my strawberry shortcake collection recently. I never did get rid of any other ponies save for the newer ones like G3/G4s. I still have collections of them but they are smaller.
