Are you organized or not?
« on: November 28, 2019, 02:31:26 PM »
I... am not, unfortunately.  Most of my collection has lived in boxes for years.  A few weeks ago I got a nice, large, used curio cabinet.  I want to display some of my nicer and hard-earned ponies, but don't know where they are.  There are boxes under the bed and boxes crammed floor to ceiling in the closet.  Then, to prevent rubs, every pony is wrapped in tissue paper.  So to find a pony, I have to unwrap and unwrap and unwrap.  A few boxes, I wrote who is in it on a piece of paper, but that is very few.

So I'm very disorganized.

I want to find Snowflake, mom and baby Hopscotch, and Honeycomb to display.  But it's gonna take me awhile.  I did find baby Honeycomb though.

I’m organized for my actual collection, but not what I have to sell (which is over 200 ponies, a couple of play sets, and a lot of merch, all G1).

I’ve downsized, so my actual collection is about 20 ponies, a My Pretty Pony, some accessories, and a few pieces of merch (takes up sooooo much less space!) so I have the ponies in a box under my bed and the rest not even packed since I’m planning on displaying them soon. My goal is to not have any packed up, so that should stay organized, right?

With the to sell ones... yikes. They’re packed neatly but I have no idea who is where or which box is which. At least I’m going to sell them as a lot locally so it doesn’t matter too much :P

Sort of? Most of my G1 are on risers that I snagged at some Homegoods-esque thing and I DID organize what few accessories I did have in plastic bags, but it's fallen into disarray and a lot of ponies are just on the floor or under the bed now.
We don't even start talking about my G4 collection.

Well, since posting I found some of my other non-US ponies: Cascade, Good Weather, shy pose Confetti, and baby Lemon Drop.  They can move into the cabinet too.  Now I need to find mommy Lemon Drop.  I want to group my moms and babies together.

Instantly jealous of your Cascade. That pony is gorgeous!

I see-saw.
This.

Certain parts are insanely messy. Other parts are just tossed together. Of course I'm  putting together a holiday display for my collection, so there's decor everywhere.

Some ponies are kept nicely on the shelf while others are just...tossed together. I plan on organizing after the holidays

I'm kind of organized?

I have a website for my toy collections (MLP, Neopets, and various dolls) that I used to be really on top of updating. I still have a record of most ponies I own including a picture and when/how I got them organized by generation. Since donating a lot of G3s and G4s I need to update who I still have, as well as take new pictures when I get a new camera, but overall its still pretty accurate. I haven't gotten many new ponies (or dolls) since I stopped updating it.

As for storage, that's a whole different beast. When I moved out in early April my boyfriend put my ponies in a one of those big plastic tubs that can fit a ton of ponies standing up. Whatever fit in there, I took. He just put them in completely at random and I did very little to interfere with that. They're almost all still in there, although the lid has been open and just resting on top for months. No tissue paper or anything. However I do at least know where all of my ponies are. Only a few aren't in that tub and I know exactly where they are.

My dolls, on the other hand, are a disaster. Some are out, some are in specific boxes, and some are god knows where. Its a total mess. Trying to find a specific one is almost impossible.

I'm decently organized I think? I'm still working on making risers for my shelves but my G3s are organized by year and then by set (they're my biggest collection), G1s just by sets, and then my G2 and G4 collections are small enough that I don't really feel the need to sort them.

I have about 7 boxes with G2 and Ponyville that I want to display but have nothing to put them on. I do want to move to boxes into a closet but I still have to clean that one out.

I am probably more organised about my ponies than I am other things in my life.

But they could serve to be more organised, however I do now have a spreadsheet which lists them (most of them, I did realise a while back I forgot to put Up Up and Away on despite having had her 20+ years) and their locations (some of which are now wrong as I am no longer in London)...but you get the point.

My backcard filing spreadsheet is probably better down to price labels and stuff.

I do know pretty much where all my loose g1s are. But occasionally one runs away.

No, not really. Half of my collection is in storage atm (and not nice, neat, organized storage, either :P) and the other half... It's about 50% "themed shelves" (i.e. boy pony shelf, winter/Xmas pony shelf... at least, half of that shelf is winter/xmas... I need to redo it) and 50% "whatever would fit on the shelf".

I do always keep families/other "related" ponies together, though.

As for spreadsheets... I have one, and I keep it up to date (probably one or two things missed being put on there, but, oh well), but that's kind of a mess, too. XD Everything's all lumped in together; G1s cheek-by-jowl with McEQGs and Dollymixes and whatnot. I guess my collection itself is the same way, though.
