How to glue things to ponies?
« on: September 29, 2019, 08:36:15 AM »
Hello again. I have some things that I'd like to glue to my customs (rhinestones, specks of glitter,  small beads) and I was wondering what type of glue I should use. Thanks!

For small things like that, especially the glitter, any kind of craft tacky glue should work fine. I use Aleene's Tacky Glue.

Bigger, heavier things you need something like E6000 or Loctite.

Don't use Super Glue for foil back rhinestones or glitter because it will dissolve them/the foil.

What about gorilla glue? Would that work for rhinestones, glitter, etc?

For glitter I use mod podge and sprinkle it over that.

As far as gorilla glue goes, I'd be wary about using it. Some of their glues expand as they dry.

I would not use gorilla glue (especially for glitter) I do ALOT of glitter ponys and what I do is mix the glitter with some Americana duragloss or gloss mod podge and use tacky glue for small findings like beads and rhinestones and add a coat of the gloss to help seal it, I have never had a issue with things falling off or with glitter rubbing off on to fingers this way

I use Loctite Super Control Gel for Rhinestones and I use Triple Thick Clear from DecoArt/Americana for glitter ;)

For things like rhinestones, sequins or similar things I have always used Gem-tac whether it's for ponies, costumes or other.

I generally prefer to use self-adhesive rhinestones, and only glue them down if they become unstable. For glitter, it depends on the effect I'm going for - for a thicker layer, I'd use a brush or toothpick to apply glue and then dip in or sprinkle glitter, for a thinner layer I'd use glitter paints that come in a bottle that you can brush on. It sort of depends on what your personal preference is. For beads, unless you are stringing them on something, like wire, string, or pony hair, any kind of glue would work fine. I've used tacky glue and mod podge, but I live in a humid area which can prevent the glue from totally drying properly, so if its something that might slide easily, i prefer to use superglue or krazy glue.

Has anyone tried using velvet fingernail flocking material on customs? If so what glue would work the best? I have some Alene's super fabric adhesive on hand.
