different names for existing ponies?
« on: November 01, 2019, 08:43:01 AM »
Hello everyone,

There are a whole lotta ponies out there, almost all with different names. I personally like the names, like wind whistler and applejack, but in g1 for example there are 2 twilights. So i decided to name the so soft pegasus candlelight instead. Does anyone else have alternate names for ponies? Double names, childhood nicknames, or things that just sound better in your ears? Pleas elet me know.

my alternate names are:
g1 twilight to candlelight
g1 scrumptious to watermelon seed
g1 windy/summer wing sky dancer to lilac dragonfly

Anyone else got anything? I would love to hear more.

Cheers,

Luke

That's a cute idea! Your post title just made me think of the American vs elsewhere names, like the tropical ponies, rainbow curls, and some of the TaF ponies.

That's true! I hadn't really considered that tbh. Whoops

For the HQG1C yellow sitting pony, I changed her name from Kitty Love to Kittycorner.  :)

I love giving new names to my ponies! Although it's not simple to coin new names (but sometimes I use existing words).

I use the UK names, so there aren't many repeats, but there are a few where a pony wasn't sold here but a pony with that name was. I mostly just stick with the names, though. I'm boring. Though quite a few of my childhood ones have nicknames, like Vanilla Treat is always Nilly to me.

I do call G3 Spring Parade "Lucozade" though. And there's Fluttsi, whose full name is Flutter Magic. She's a CMM Fluttershy, but don't tell her that because she thinks she's unique ;)

A lot of my girlfriend's childhood ponies have names she gave to them because she didn't know their real ones, e.g. Baby Tippytoes is Clover and Little Flitter is Zenobia. Most of our UK-purchased ponies go by their UK names....except my girlfriend's childhood Sweetie, who became Sweetstuff because Sweetstuff & the Treasure Hunt was one of my gf's favourite MLP episodes when she was little.
When I get ponies from other countries I like to call them by the names they were known by in that country (I like foreign pony names!) so Argentinian Truly is Novia, Spanish Applejack is Manzanita etc.
Thanks to a moment of confusion when we got her, our :muffin: Pony is known as Cupcake. We had only just got into G4 and I said 'hey I know this one's name, it's something to do with small cakes....Cupcake!'. Cupcakes, muffins, they're fairly similar . The name stuck and she's now Cupcake.

Ah yeah, in my spreadsheet all the variations that have other names are listed by them (eg Molinillo and Rocio rather than Spanish Pinwheel and Trickles). It's kind of cool that way :D
