Argos Book of Dreams

If you’re from the U.K. this will be a special trip down memory lane...

Argos have scanned in all of their catalogues (amazing marketing ploy) from the 70’s up to the present day!

There are some pony gems in there. Including this watch that I’ve never seen before:

I’ve literally just spent an hour flicking through these and travelling back to my childhood!

FYI non U.K. people - the toys are always at the back :D

Enjoy!

I remember that watch!!! It was sold here in the USA well into the late 90s on a plastic blister card! It had the tropical shs on it!

These catalogues are soooo dreamy! Those pristine toys! And so many memories! I loved kissing dragons! Thanks so much for sharing!

I think I have that watch. I have one of them, somewhere, in a lunchbox in the loft.

Kudos to Argos for doing this!

I have a lot of images from their past catalogues and they had a really nice range of ponies through the eighties. They're the most solid proof we have for when and where some things were out here, so it's awesome they're making it more available.

I wish other stores had that kind of record. I would love to see (non existant of course!) similar from Woolworths, as they were aladdin's cave of pony secrets in the eighties/nineties...

Pretty certain I've got that watch.

I can also now see why I didn't get many adult ponies as a kid. Yikes on those prices!

It's also interesting to note that most Argos' would not have carried these ponies. That little S next to the price indicates that they're only available at a "superstore" and not every town had one.

Talking about catalogues I wish were still about... Index! I would love to compare them with Argos but I've seen very few Index catalogues online.

Adult pony prices were pretty high towards the end of the line. I mean, Argos is actually cheaper than some of the cards in my collection that still have price tags. Prices went up a lot between the early 1980s and those images from the 1990s. I remember clearly that by around 1990ish adult ponies were mostly around £6ish and for me, a kid who got maybe a couple of quid a week if lucky, I tended to focus on baby ponies more...
