Ingrained Dirt...How Long is this Supposed to Take?
« on: October 26, 2019, 04:47:09 PM »
"As long as it needs to" Yeah, ok. I'm impatient.
But also, just curious if anyone has any tips. I did an oxiclean bath, scraped, used a toothbrush (didn't feel very effective), used magic eraser (didn't feel very effective), boiled, rinse and repeated the same few things. I spent about an hour? Which is like, no time at all, sure. It's a Cherry Treats with lots of dots all over. Now she is...less dotty. Still dotty.
I think it lessened. It's not as offensive to me now, but just curious if I'm, like, doing it wrong or something. Would rubbing alcohol help? What about a peroxide bath?

Hot water and lots of hard rubbing is still the best way, as far as I know. It does take a long time. I had semi decent results using a butterknife.

I had a dirty moondancer with dirt on her face, ears, horn and a bit of her body. It took me about an hour to clean her head up but less for the body.

My best tip is to take the head off carefully with hot water if necessary. Then sumbmerge in warm water overnight or even longer before getting back to the scraping.

Best to read the warnings about using oxyclean if you haven't already, especially as Cherry Treats has red hair.

Good luck.

Oh, she's getting rehaired and had a buzzcut so her hair was removed already. So I just gotta keep at it? Drat.

The one time I did it, it was brutal. I used my fingernails and a toothbrush but I ended up breaking it up where I picked a part of the body to work on each day to work on. So I guess my best advice is to just break it up into sessions.
