I’m super happy to see this thread. :-) I was rediscovering collecting ponies when G2’s were just coming out, and I was moving to England that same year. I unfortunately didn’t get into collecting G2’s while in Europe, and still regret it to this day. I was in high school and was “too cool” for the new ponies and only collected the older ones. Now I am finding myself going back and picking up favorites that I remember seeing in stores during those years. I love the style of them, the glitter, the royalty, their cute babies. They’re so unique and different and really feminine. I’m a girly girl to the core and absolutely adore their charm.

On a side note, does anyone know of a good site to gauge rarity/current value of the different ponies? I am in the US and as most of these are European exclusives, eBay does not offer a lot of insight because they’re not listed there. And unfortunately I don’t read the international versions of eBay very well. LOL Trying to figure out what the ponies are going for and what our fair price is for them. It is a struggle as a new collector

Whoo! Welcome to the G2 club :)

Pricing EU G2's has become quite tricky. The G2 Book by Summer Hayes has prices in them, but they are way off.
It depends a bit on who you're looking for :) Some loose are $10-15, others... $30 and the few exceptions are now $50+ (Magic Diamond Glow)

I mean... Alternate Seabreeze was recently sold for €150  :faint:

Oh my goodness! That is quite a bit for Seabreeze! A bit out of my range. 😅

The other thing that makes collecting these tricky is trying to factor in the shipping into the value.  My head is already begun to spin. Some ponies I’ve found for a reasonable price,  but then $30 in shipping makes them out of budget.  I’m trying to find small lots to make the shipping more reasonable.

Are there certain years or styles that are more desirable/sought after?

I'd say the rarest years (In my opinion) would be 2003, maybe 2002.
I'd say some rare ones (In my opinion) are the boat plus its twins, Wednesday Afternoon Bride, French magazine twins Noisy and Click plus Study and Play, and aforementioned Diamond Glow plus both Seabreezes.
Those who're sought after (In my opinion) are Prince Firefly, Precious, Eve and Copper Glow.

Junior is pretty popular, I had sooo many people watching the listing when I had her on eBay.  I would guess mostly due to her nice color scheme (white and blue).

You ladies are awesome, thank you so much! Moonbreeze, your website is a Treasure Trove! It is the Dream Valley site of G2’s (and goodness do I miss Dream Valley :’( ).  I spent hours on there yesterday getting familiar with the different lines.  And multiplied my want list by triple! 😂

Question....Hip Holly.  I remember seeing her in stores, but I don’t see her for sale very often.  How hard is she to find? What is the approx value of her?

Also, how ridiculously hard will it be to track down Noisy and Click, and Study and Play...? Are they extremely expensive?

From my knowledge, Hip Holly was actually recalled because she got sticky, so the ones currently floating about are the ones that didn't get returned.

I'd say there's a few Hip Holly's floating about, I've seen her more times among G2 collectors for sale but only occasionally outside of those groups, maybe like 3-5 times on eBay for me? I've been in the pony fandom since Feb this year and maybe only really getting into G2's June/July this year(?) I think a quoted price from the G2 collector FB group was either 30 pounds or 30 euros (I get their symbols confused easily)

And for both the magazine twins, they were released in France only and not only that, they were released with the magazines so I'd say they're on the very high end of rarity. From my experience, I've only seen them in the G2 FB group for sale, maybe seen Noisy and Click sold together once on eBay?

I wonder, if Hasbro is doing everything to make each gen mane6-ed, maybe they can take g2's "core four" and add Sky Skimmer and Brights Bramley as close proximities?
They did it to ponies not-related to g4 charactrs at all already...

(I know they forgot of i...just imagining)

Eh, when they tried to do that to Collector Pose 6, none of which are big on m6-similarity, and gave colorful strands to every one; maybe recolor Sundance's?

So curious -

What made you get into G2’s and why?

Did you like them when they originally came out?

Did you pursue them after they became a Europe exclusive line?

What is a grail of yours and why?

Myself - I was a G1 collector and rebuilding my G1 army.  I moved to England right at the release of the G2’s and only bought one during their release.  I regret not buying them when I was in England, but I was “loyal” to my G1’s. 😅live and learn!

My most wanted pony is TrixieBelle (hopefully with accessories).  I remember seeing her in Argos and absolutely loving her color scheme and fun accessories! I asked my parents to buy her for me, carried her around the store, and was told no as I was too old for ponies (16ish at the time).  So she is at the top of my list. :) followed closely buy Star Swirl, as I got the McDonalds ponies in England and always wanted the full sized Star Swirl. <3

What made you get into G2’s and why?
I collected G1 so when G2 came out, I just continued to collect MLP.
Did you like them when they originally came out?
Yes, I love them as much as G1.
Did you pursue them after they became a Europe exclusive line?
Umm, no. Since I live in Europe, we had them in stores.
What is a grail of yours and why?
The variants of G2.

What made you get into G2’s and why?
I got into pony collecting through helping my girlfriend look through her childhood collection. Most of it consisted of G1s but there were a few G2s as well and I thought 'hey, these are cute!'. I was already buying G4s and owned one G3, so I decided to collect a few of each generation.
Asked my gf how she got into G2s and she says she just bought anything remotely MLP-like when she was little: G1s, G2s, fakies, the lot.

Did you like them when they originally came out?
I was....four I think when they first came out? And I don't remember them! I missed out on being able to buy brand new G2 ponies! How silly of me!
Until recently I was sure I didn't have any MLP when I was little but I recently found a photo of me aged 6 and it seems to have something pony-like in the background with a yellow body and rainbow hair....so maybe I had Lady Rainbow and I just don't remember! Or it could just be some random fakie.
Edit: Oh no it can't be Lady Rainbow, she didn't come out until 2001. The hunt for Shaz's Mysterious Possible Childhood MLP continues .

Did you pursue them after they became a Europe exclusive line?
As previously mentioned, I didn't know about them.
My gf was too young to know that they were still available in Europe. As far as she knew, ponies were gone and she was back to just buying fakies and second-hand G1s.

What is a grail of yours and why?
I really love the G2 playsets, I would love to have the sailboat!

* What made you get into G2’s and why?

I grew up with them :) I love(d) their design and the little gems in their eyes.
I never heard of MLP before. G1 was a bit of shocker to see first time haha

* Did you like them when they originally came out?
Yes! I was six and saw the commercial on tv. So... we had to get Ivy :) I still have her

*Did you pursue them after they became a Europe exclusive line?
Yes, I could get most of them in stores. Eventually I did lose interest for a while...

What is a grail of yours and why?
MIB Sailboat or a MIP variant Seabreeze

What made you get into G2’s and why?

I actually found the game when I was maybe 4? I played it on and off for years, so I knew of their existence but it wasn't until I finally got into G4 with Shining Armour and Cadence, I researched the previous gens.

I ended up liking the molds of G2s then that lead me down memory lane,  and now I'm getting super into them.

Did you like them when they originally came out?

I wish I could have on an opinion on this, but I was born on the last international year and was only 1 when they supposedly ended in Australia.

Did you pursue them after they became a Europe exclusive line?

I wish, I was only starting to gain a human conscious at that age.

What is a grail of yours and why?

Hmm, a grail? A MOC Wednesday Afternoon Bride and either loose or MOC Her Majesty Ballerina.

What made you get into G2’s and why?

Because they're super cute! :P Plus I'm just like, an all generation collector. But they are very beautiful ponies!

Did you like them when they originally came out?

I was only two when they came out, and never had any (or MLPs in general) until I got into ponies in 2011.

Did you pursue them after they became a Europe exclusive line?

Again I was too young, and only got into ponies in 2011, but I mean I guess technically yes, since 2011 is well after they became Europe only (and well after they ended :P).

What is a grail of yours and why?

Hip Holly! Because I love her bright colors and unique gimmick. I don't care if she gets sticky, I need her. :P
