That's their proper set name.
So they are just called my little pony!? Movie ponies is a much better name for them!

In the Uk they were sold as "My Little Pony", but in France, and other places, they were sold as Movie Star ponies (Cine-Star, etc). In the UK too in catalogues they were advertised as movie ponies, even if not on the cards, so that seems the best name for them overall :) They were stars in the movie, after all.

Incidentally, one of the nicest backcard designs, that one :)

I thought this was going to be about quotes from the show, rather than toylines.

On topic: There are lines in G1 that I love, even though there are individual ponies that I like better than the ones in the line - does that still count as a "favorite line"?

I will confess to being a brony, but I assure you that the things you may not like about them do not apply to me, I mostly keep the fandom name due to nostaligia, but I do genuinely love MLP as a whole, not just FIM, and not just the popularity of FIM - I genuinely love the show (and all the others)

I'm going to risk it and answer anyway; sorry if it doesn't work that these are my favorite lines, and that individual ponies that I favor more are in other lines.

1. Glow 'n Show Ponies - Very beautiful designs and I love their appearance in My Little Pony Tales.  They are inspiring ponies for me.

2. Sparkle Ponies - Also beautiful and inspiring, it would have been great to have seen these given episodes.  They would have been nice to have had as a kid as well (but I feel like that about most of the G1s.)

3.  Slumber Party Gift Pack - There's something nostalgic about slumber parties and I love ponies with a night time/bed time theme to them, as that also has a childhood nostalgia attachment to it - I'd have loved for them to have gotten a one off episode about their slumber party.  Also, in my opinion, Pillow Talk is a cute name.   :silly:

4.  7 Pony Friends - Gotta show some love for the Tales ponies.  Seriously though, I do love these ponies; even without their show they are beautifully designed, and definitely look like ponies I would have wanted back then.

5.  I'm honestly not sure what line goes here... Tropical Ponies for their fun tropical looks?  First year Twice as Fancy ponies, because of their beautiful design?  Mountain Boys because I get some level of inspiration from them too?  I honestly don't know at the moment... sorry.

For me it's probably
- Twice as Fancy
- Twinkle Eyes
- Sparkle Ponies
- Merry-Go-Round (I am DYING to get my hands on any of this set lol)
- Big brother ponies (also high on my list)
I'm sure someday these will change as I've just started collecting G1 ponies but these so far are my favorites  :)
