Peeking in to say I haven't seen Tales, but I've seen Brutalmoose and I came here just to see if anyone else mentioned it. XD  I've seen a few episodes of the other cartoon but MLP Tales is still one I need to check out.

I love Tales :satisfied:. The show aired as morning TV when I was in fifth grade and I ate my breakfast infront of the TV while watching it. A sweet anecdote from that time is we were exactly as many girls and boys in class as the characters and one classmate gave each of us a name after the pony she thought we were most alike. I was Brighteyes which suited me as she was (still is) my favorite character ^.^. I have the DVD-box of the show, but somehow they excluded the episode of Brighteyes being an exchange student at an island. It's such a bummer because I loved that episode as a kid .

Why didn't they release that episode? That is a bummer.

Wait, what, seriously? Is this the Shout Factory release or a different one? I've got that DVD but haven't really gotten 'round to watching it...  :(

I have no idea. It's a company called FilmFactory that released the DVDs in Sweden and it was a long time ago. I have not heard or read anywhere of why that episode was not included.

i have no idea who distributed the tales dvd that was in the uk back in... god, i don't know, 10+ years ago maybe? more, i think. but they excluded maybe half the episodes. the distributor may be the same as in sweden but i wouldn't know, i don't own the dvds anymore.
the ones on the dvd were: slumber party, too sick to notice, battle of the bands, and the winner is, stand by me, the tea party, the masquerade, out of luck, bon bon's diary, and just for kicks.

I wish they'd still translate/change pony names.
Here's how the Tales ponies were named in Germany:

Starlight = Starlett (someone who feels like a star, I guess)
Sweetheart = Herzglück (literal translation would be heart luck, but it means happiness)
Melody = Roxy (because... she rocks, GET IT KIDS?!)
Brighteyes = Pfiffikus (means "a very clever/bright person")
Patch = Flick Flack (after the acrobatic move but it's also the name of a circus AND "Flicken" is also a word for "patch" so this one is extremely clever, imo)
Clover = Glücksklee (means "lucky clover(s)")
Bon Bon = Bon Bon, d'uh!

Zapper, Bright Eyes' german name is the best and most unspellable name since the dutch rabbit baby. Not even kidding.

I moan a lot about people in the UK abandoning their childhood and not using UK names, but I think it's a shame we don't have more discussion on/with the other language names for the ponies too. I think it's really interesting seeing how they're named.

Montgolfiere is still my favourite non English pony name (Up Up and Away in French). While Montgolfiere is a hot air balloon I think in French, the fact it nods to the Montgolfier brothers is in my view awesome. A toy that teaches history as well. Yay!

...I went off topic, but going back to the Seven Characters, and Roxy - Misfits, anyone??

I got my DVDs on Wednesday and finished up the series over two nights. There were some fun episodes in there, and the ponies really did have personality. I can see why so many people here say Patch is their favorite, but I also liked Sweetheart and Bon Bon. With so few episodes, some characters just don't get much screen time, and it makes me wish there'd been a second season.

The animation, unfortunately, seems typical for the time, and the DVD transfer makes the whole thing look like it was filmed through a dirty fish tank. Perhaps if I was nostalgic for CRTs and VCRs I wouldn't mind, but...

And now, after hearing the theme song twenty-six times in a little over twenty-four hours, the damned thing is stuck in my head!

P.S. - Teddy is a jerk, and Sweetheart needs to ditch him before she ends up trapped in an abusive relationship!

I like to think that at some point SH comes to her senses and just ditches him for someone better, like Lancer or Logan Barrington or even one of the roller rink boys, and Teddy just ends up bitter and alone.

Tales was my first experience with animated My Little Pony.  Bon Bon is my favorite, and I still enjoy watching the series every now and again.

If anyone is interested, there are many animation cels from MLP Tales here:

In the "Home Pony" section can be found some model sheets, too!
