Stranger Things Applejack hair match?
« on: July 17, 2019, 04:14:38 PM »
Hello Pony people!

Once again I need your assistance! I was wondering what hair color Stranger Things Applejack has. I was looking at Dollyhair, there is this color called hematite, but it might be too grey? Maybe another color?

ETA: I just found this other color in Retro Dolls UK calle Hocus Pocus that might be a better match. What do you think?

Really?! Awesome! Thank you so much! I wish I had a bigger assortment of MLP hair.

That also looks very similar.. I can't tell if the second hair is a black or a purple. The first hair hank had a purplish tint and I think I see the same in the second. That looks like it would work as well!

Honestly -- I don't trust color matching on anything not calibrated... (I want  pantone chips!)

that said, IRL, the hair has a really has a very rich purple color.  My color matching gut leans toward no. (But there might not be an actual color match).

here are more examples of hematite, which I feel like show the color in different lighting situations. And you are right, it is very grey. STAJ is more rich, as I had mentioned.

I think it's a little too warm/red of a purple and needs more blue tones. Here's a pic, hematite is on the bottom, an unnamed random blue I was sent with a random 10 lot is on top. Neither are quite right, sadly, but by the eye hematite looks a lot closer than it does by photograph. I might mix the two... or just pick one since they aren't crazy off color.

(I also compared Sour Grapes but it was way off; too bright and saturated)

Those links and photos are very helpful!! Thanks a lot!

I think that Hematite doesn't work. And I agree with @banditpony. Matching guides aren't always as usefull. Hopefully we have a great community here ^^

Do any of you have a hank of Hocus Pocus to compare?

I was checking again on Dolly Hair and I was thinking maybe KISS OF DEATH... but it might be too red. After midnight might bee to bright. Also PACIFIC OCEAN, but not quite sure. Also the blends might be interesting, but judging by the photos, they might be too bright.

Ah!! This girl has a hard hair color!! And I don't think that getting donnor hair is going to be an option at the moment!

Dollyhair doesn't have an exact match to my AJ. Hematite is the closest, but it's a little too matte. Kiss of Death is the next closest, but it's too red-toned. Of the samples Shannon sent me from RetroDolls US, Dark Enchantress is almost there. It's the right tone but a bit too light. I don't have Hocus Pocus to compare.

Hmm, Pacific Ocean is way too blue for sure.
Hocus Pocus looks pretty promising though. But I don't have the colour myself.

Wandering etsy and customdollhairAu has one called Squid Ink.
One called Phantasm.  However, I have not met STAJ in person, so I could be way out in left field.

what is the possibility of taking a normal purple -- but dying it black? Would it maintain it's saturation?

It would all depend on the dye and type of purple, but you could probably do this by not allowing it to stay in the dye as long. It may take experimentation but may work.
