What is this crusty crud?
« on: July 10, 2019, 12:48:37 PM »
Hey all, I'm hoping you pony fixing geniuses can help me with this poor Dazzle. I got her in a bait lot, but since she was in such good shape, I wanted to try to fix her. Her hair is perfect, her cutie mark is perfect, I just can't get rid of this crusty stuff! She's had baths in Dawn dish detergent and baking soda. I'm reluctant to try acetone, but I'm running out of options. Help!

Looks like maybe tobacco stains. Does she smell like smoke? I would give the acetone a try. Be careful with the glitter symbols - don't use an oxi bath on her, for example.

I'm not sure what that is.

If it's surface-level, maybe a scrub with Magic Eraser could help. A Magic Eraser soaked with rubbing alcohol can remove a lot of grime, although of course you need to be careful around her glitter, and it won't help with any deep-set staining. Good luck!

(p.s. Her name is Sparkler. ;))

I would try sunfading before using strong chemicals to try to remove stains.
Imho , these stains look like she was left in water that eventually dried out. My kid's bath toys sometimes get like that. Have you tried scrubbing with baking soda plus vinegar ( careful of glitter& paint)?

Ah, thank you all! I'll try the Vinegar/Baking Soda thing, that sounds like a good solution. I know it's not tobacco, and I think that it's water staining as proposed by lovesbabysquirmy. Wish me luck!

Please update on how it turns out! I have some ponies with similar stains.
