Just wondering. I love to swim in my pool and I think that some pictures with an underwater themed pony would look amazing.

But a pool isn't simply water  There's not much of it, but there's still chlorine. I wouldn't take a mint pony with me. Do you think there are any risks ? Have you ever brought a pony to swim with you?

No. Ponies have metal washers inside them to keep their tails in. Even ignoring the chlorine, the pony will get tail rust from the water alone, possibly mold too.

Hmm good question, I replace my metal washers, but i wouldn't bring them in because of the chlorine.

These is however some doll pool craft tutorials by myfroggystuff on youtube, and a mermaid cove diy too. Maybe that will help get the underwater feel, withouth actually being underwater.

It's safe if you thoroughly dry it out (keep in mind humidity which would keep it moist inside. You could totally do it for a few photoshoots, just don't do it daily.

I played with my ponies in water all the time.  But, I had also made their heads and tails “removable” so they were easy to dry out.  They never got tail rust.  But I don’t think I would do that to minty ponies.

Since we’re talking about a chlorinated pool, it’s not safe regardless of whether you removed the metal parts or dried the pony thoroughly afterwards. The chlorine will dry the hair badly, or even make it brittle (I have a pool, and I speak from experience). PLUS, it’s very, very hard to dry a pony out completely unless you remove the head and let both parts air out for a week. Mold can take hold very easily if there’s residual moisture.

So remember to swim safely, and keep your ponies safe and happy on dry land!

As a kid sometimes when I went to play at a friend's house, her mum would take us to their country club pool (yeah, I know...rich friends...) and we'd take our baby sea ponies with us. So Sunshower, Ripple (mine) and Backstroke (hers).

Sunshower did have mould at one point but I think it was unrelated as I think it happened before those trips. My friend got Backstroke second hand so we were probably eight or nine at the time. Ripple never took any harm from the trips, despite them both being pearly.

One of my other (also rich) friends had a private pool but...we didn't swim in there with the ponies. And we didn't swim in there at all after a couple of very bad things happened around it. So just the country club that I can think of, but without any actual harm.

My family, not being rich, had a bathtub And that in a lot of ways was probably a lot more risky given the shampoo, bubble bath and the frequency with which Ripple and Sunshower both swam there...

Of course the ponies were a lot less old then.

P.S my Cherries Jubilee was very adventurous when I was small and liked to swim in puddles (o.o;. She has never had tail rust.

As long as you don't keep em in too long and dry them inside and out really good, you shouldn't have an issue afterwards.

I always had several of my ponies with me in the bath tub when I was a wee one. From those original childhood ponies I still own today, none has developed any tail rust, and I didn't make sure they were well dried out as a child. I simply poured out the water that got inside of them (I always loosened the heads as a child so that I could make them look into different directions when I played with them), dried them with a towel, and that was it. That said, I don't live in a particularly humid climate, and my bath water did not contain chlorine.

I'm much more careful with my ponies today and wouldn't unnecessarily subject a pony to water like that, but from my childhood experiences I'd guess you can take a pony into the pool with you, but make sure to keep the period in the water short, rinse it well after you are done to remove any chlorine from the pony, and maybe even wash the hair afterwards with a very mild shampoo & condition it; then make sure to dry it thoroughly. Maybe even take a pony where you exchanged the metal washers.

As collectors, we are doing a lot to keep our collection items in the best condition possible, and sometimes go to great length to make sure they are submitted to as few possibly damaging conditions as possible. That's totally fine and in the best interest of keeping the collection safe. However, if it keeps you from enjoying your collection, then I personally think this is going a step too far. A collection should bring the collector joy and entertainment, and how this is achieved is different for everyone. Many people are happy with displaying their items and just looking at them on display. Others take items with them on adventures, which may end up subjecting the ponies to circumstances that might speed up their deterioration process, or outright damage them. At the end of the day, everyone should do what makes them happy with their collection. If you want to take a pony with you to the pool and take some cool and dramatic pictures for you to enjoy and share with others, you do you!

I think you should play with your pony if you want to!  Water photos are fun!

Just dry and clean her up after, don't leave her in the sun, and yes, acknowledge that some pool treatments are long-term bad for hair.  Although you can re-hair them...

I played with mine in the bath too, one got a mould problem after many years and the rest are fine.

I'd say just don't use your most valuable one and let it dry thoroughly.  A removable head would probably help.

Ponies don't have muscles and will drown................make sure she has a floatie....
