Princess Ponies and dragons in Europe...?
« on: July 01, 2019, 07:52:49 AM »
Specifically the Netherlands and possibly Belgium as well...

I know Germany and France had carded Princesses. I know Italy had dragons like the UK did. But this interests me in particular...

Does this mean the Netherlands also had dragons with their first set Princesses?

I have talked to a dutch collector and she said, the Netherlands have had the ponies with dragons.

I don’t know for sure as the princesses are later releases than I have checked into, but searching the Swedish BST site I have seen several of the dragons being sold. Enough for me to noticing and finding it interesting. I haven’t checked it out though, but it might be that Sweden had the dragons? Maybe some Swedish collectors would now. Or I can check my sources, and probably find out ;)

I don’t think we had the dragons in Norway though, although I can’t really be sure. I do remember the bushwoollies as a kid, so therefore I’m thinking we had them in Norway. But I don’t really know either way  :lookround:

Thanks guys. I am guessing they got imported in the netherlands then...since I know the 2nd set were sold there in English (US) boxes but labelled up with belgian and dutch labels.

@Katrine, I have wondered about what happened in Scandinavian/Norse countries as well, because I know you didn't always have the same thing but it's one of those sets where there's mixed and vague information. Maybe that is the reason - Sweden had dragons and you had bushwoolies. I wonder about Denmark and Finland.

@Taffeta: yes, Scandinavia is a mess  It makes sense though that Sweden would have the dragons. They followed your releases much more closely than we did in Norway. They had the first set of PnC babies (with AJ), they had the Mountain boys and I even think they had that lilac buggy with baby Lemondrop? Not sure though. We had none of those in Norway.

Finland and Denmark are more of a black hole to me at the moment. I don’t know anything about Finland, and Denmark seems over all much more linked to the releases in Central Europe. They got a lot of Italians for instance, that was not common in Norway, but I am following local Danish BST sites and there are a lot of Italians from childhood collections. Maybe someone from Denmark and Finland can add more info- I would love to learn more about releases from those countries!

Anyway, I can check this out a little bit more- it is on my «to do»-list to check the princess releases anyway ;)

Update!

I did find confirmation that the princesses were sold with dragons in Sweden ;) I have no idea about Norway, Finland and Denmark I’m afraid. That needs more digging :thumb:

Back in the days when I had my Ponies in Europe thread, I had people chip in and say that princesses with dragons were a thing in Hungary and Israel.

So then I guess the question should be, who had dragons, who had bushwoolies, and who had nothing?

@Shaz - that doesn't surprise me because Hungary and Israel both seem to have had import stuff from the UK, eg Gypsy if I remember right.

As far as I understand it right now, globally it looks like this...

Dragons
UK - UK box
Italy - Italian box
Netherlands - package unknown
Sweden
Finland
(Hungary, Israel - probably UK imports)

Bushwoolies
America
Canada
Norway

Neither
Germany (Austria, Switzerland?)
France

I'm especially interested of course in the European side, but I'm also curious about Aus, NZ and South Africa as they have such mixed releases.

Finland had dragons. I vividly remember getting Serena as a gift on my 5th birthday. I still have the green little dragon that came with her.

Super unhelpful answer (sorry) but oh my gosh that pic is the cutest!!! Also this thread is fascinating, I love stuff like this.

(well, I don't love the bizarre distribution, I guess... but it's interesting to hear about years later :p)

Oh! That is interesting! Does this mean you also had perhaps others that were released in Sweden too? Such as the Mountain Boys, baby Applejack and Truly/Cupcake from the Pony Friends set?

Sorry for hijacking the thread a little, but I so rarely meet Finnish collectors and I know so little of the distribution of MLP in Finland

It makes me kind of sad that most countries never got royal bushwoolies :(

I have always been glad we had Dragons. Dragons are better! Lol.

Although with the variant princess thing happening we also had bushwoolies as well...kind of. I have 2 from the UK from variant Ambers.

@Katrine I don't mind the hijack. The more info I can put together about European releases the better. I am probably never going to get every detail but I want to try and tackle as much as I can since no other site is going to.
