Bright Eyes restoration and Tail/rust help please!
« on: May 12, 2019, 02:33:28 AM »
Hi friends!

I bought a Bright Eyes from a collector who said she's in need of restoration and the seller wasn't wrong. But now I have to try sunfading and other new things, so anybody got any tips? I looked at mlprestoration.com but their info on age/cancer spots isn't too informative.

And I realised I could fix my TAF Buttons tail rust because her neck glue dried out, i cleaned her tail (paint rust stain on her hair, nothing that can't be fixed) but her washer is still rusted (washed it a little bit) any clue on how to clean it entirely? Any tips on cleaning the rust from her tail hole? And any clue on how to put her tail back in?

I know some people will be able to help you with the rust/tail issue on Buttons, but the only thing I want to add to this thread is be very careful with using any kind of chemical on Bright Eyes (if you are at all thinking down that line) as blue ponies usually react the worst to those kinds of things.

I am not sure if she's safe to sunfade but if the marks are age related or plastic breakdown related, putting her in the sun is going to probably accelerate that process, rather than fix it.

So I would just say handle with care.

You are really picking up some nice ponies lately though :D

What would you think about de-heading her and using soap + water from the inside? Idk if that'd help too much, maybe look into commonly used anti fungal stuff? And for both issues, worst comes to worst I can colour match and seal it. Also thank you!

I have never tried to clean a washer entirely but I normally replace the washer with 2 zip ties... that hasn't given me any problems. I once tried to clean a zip tie but it broke.  Anyway, hope this helps! You have some beautiful ponies!

For rust, I recommend whitening toothpaste, works great :). I would honestly not use the washer anymore because of the rust and replace it with two zipties, but Im not sure what will work if you want to keep it?

For bright eyes, I would recommend overpainting the discoloured spots. I can't give you any advice chemical wise but maybe somebody else can.

Hope this helps :)

Surely that's the tail clamp rather than the washer...?

There’s not much you can do for the age spots on Bright Eyes unfortunately. You could try sun fading the orange lines but this is risky as it could also discolour her blue body.

Tail rust is easy to sort out though and you’ve been given good advice on that already! If you do try sun fading you should have some fairly strong sun in Aus to it shouldn’t take too long!
