Cleaning Nirvanas?? Help!!
« on: April 25, 2019, 02:33:38 PM »
I just recently bought an Italian Seashell and I’ve always been curious about how to do their hair. Is it different material than the HK/China ponies? Is it more fragile? Should I take care when using a Magic Eraser??

I've never used things like magic erasers for marks, I'm completely soap and water ONLY on my ponies - but I never had any issue shampooing Italian hair with a diluted mild shampoo (I think some people use washing up liquid/dish soap but I haven't tried that).

I don't think it's more fragile unless you can see any obvious damage to it (such as frizzing, or signs someone has used hairspray etc to the point sections have stuck together - which can make any pony hair brittle if left on for a really long long time).

It's always a good rule of thumb to be careful with magic eraser, particularly over painted areas. I would only use it if she's particularly grubby and soap does nothing.
Do you notice any spots or flaws in her picture?

Magic Eraser should be fine, just never use it near symbols or eyes.

If you need to bath her, use a gentle soap to clean her and you can scrub with a tooth brush (again not near symbols or paint)

You can use gentle shampoo and conditioner on the mane and tail. I always use wig shampoo and conditioner deigned for synthetic hair on my ponies.

Just to add from my side: I have personally noticed that Italian hair appears to be more 'fragile' that the 'regular Hong Kong' (for want of a better description) hair. It does not stand up to heat as well and seems to frizz more easily.

Good luck with your pony, please post when you have cleaned her up  :)

You are right, the hair fibres are finer and straighter compared to Hong Kong/China hair.
