Newspaper stains tips?
« on: April 09, 2019, 06:09:41 PM »
I ordered some G1s off ebay, and they arrived today. Unfortunately, the seller wrapped them in newspaper, and so they now have black ink stains all over them
Will this come off with a wash? Does anyone know any tips for getting rid of newspaper stains?

try scrubbing with liquid dish soap but if it's stained, you'll need to sunfade.  sometimes magic eraser also works...

Can you return them? As they are no longer in the condition in which you purchased them. Sorry to have such a horrible surprise when opening them.

The only method I know of is sunfading: I have a gorgeous Shady with the same problem who I am nervous to sun fade as she is so vividly pink. I just face her so that the print does not show.

I would rather not return them since they are in lovely condition otherwise, and they came all the way from America

Thanks for the responses though! I will try scrubbing them with soap tomorrow and see if it does anything.

Well the distance part doesn't matter. If you get an item that isn't in the same condition as listed, it's the seller's burden for shipping.

There's a possibility you might get a partial refund if you have a good seller?

I second the dish soap. I was able to remove newspaper ink on a monster high doll with rubbing alcohol; I dampened a cotton ball with it and rubbed the spot until it was gone, the washed the area with soap and water. Not sure how it would work on painted areas and it doesn't always work but worth a try:)

Being in Australia you're lucky that sunfading should be a quick fix. I agree, soap and water first to see if anything will lift off, even a magic eraser.
I got a great deal on a Gypsy because she was afflicted with the newspaper measles... Even after a good cleaning she still has spots. About time I put her in a window for some treatment (10 years later).

Thanks for the tips! I have never tried using dishwashing liquid to clean ponies before and goodness me... I am delighted to say, it worked wonders! Only got around to cleaning one of the three girls today, but the ink came straight off.

I took some before & after pics:

Great! You've been so lucky. Sometimes it's very difficult to remove this kind of stains...
