Flaws common to specific ponies?
« on: April 03, 2019, 12:52:29 PM »
...And by the title I mean, what specific ponies have some flaws that are very common amongst them? For example, Cherry Treats is known to be pony that gets yellowish with time, not to forget all the ponies with pale pink hair that will almost certainly fade to white.

What other examples come to mind? (Also, if you have discovered how to avoid/stop those flaws, please tell others too!)

Oh man, Party Time and her heckin "regrind" spots! >_< A lot of Twinkle Eyes have similar problems, but not as bad as her. I have never in my life seen a spotless Party Time.

Funny, she was the first one that came into my mind as well O.o.

Also going to add problems with standing - ponies in the Love Melody pose.

Oh man we could go on and on here! I’m interested to see what everyone else puts.

Gingerbread and brown spots.

Obviously Flutter ponies and missing wings.

And rollerskate ponies with missing wheels. I have a mint one on eBay at the moment and it is the only one I’ve had pass through my hands in about 4/5 that has all the wheels.

Rollers also tend to have failed mechanisms now. It's not because the motors go - but because the rubber on the drive wheels goes hard and loses the friction to grip. It's very sad :(

I would love to know if anyone has successfully managed to find a way to repair this, as the rollerskates ponies are quite fun when they function.

Also, the Magic Message ponies, whose symbols are often rubbed, or sometimes come off completely...

I've noticed that Pocket ponies from the US often have missing pockets or pocket pets (but have mostly great hair). In the UK the pockets are often fine, but the hair is often suspect. Can't win :/

Cloud Puff Flutter Pony has a tendancy to have regrind too.  Fortunately, it is kinda pretty (pink spots)

Party Time was the first one I thought as well. Mine has several hot pink patches all over her. Windy Wing Skydancer also gets regrind.

I forgot about the Magic Message ponies although I should have remembered since my childhood Mirror Mirror's coating came off and her symbol is now stuck and unable to change back.

The yellowing white ponies, the browning white ponies, the regrind,  the rock hard BigBrothers (you could give someone a serious blow to the head with one!), the love melody and majesty poses have no balance, also fading pink hair is an issue... what else... oh the happy tails tend to break! The perfume puffs go funny brownish colors. Roller skating ponies, they break too..
Same with the talking ponies
The eyelash princesses go from Diva Beauty to fallen popstar tabloid mugshot photos.

I was looking for a really nice Galaxy on eBay yesterday and every single one listed had coarse hair.  I think it's just the texture of her hair colors or something?  Adult Sugarberry also tends to have coarse hair.  It's strange because her hair isn't that different in color from Cherry Treats, who usually has nice silky hair.

Now you mention it, my Strawberry Fair (Sugarberry)'s tail is now a big fuzzy mess, and so is Tropical Breeze's hair - but Strawberry's mane (from which my friend accidentally washed curls and which has since been recurled) is fine. I wonder if there's a relationship between those things. Cherry Treats has straight hair. You also see less frizz or issues on the hair type in the UK CJ from 1986 than on the 1985 one that has curls as a rule. I think curly is a big part of this.

I also have never yet had a broken Happytails pony, but I have seen interestingly broken DnP ponies...

Chief and Quackers with age spots come to mind for me.

For hair, my Cherry Treats has nice hair and Sugarberry is frizzy and coarse too. I guess it’s just the curls?

My favorite thing about the Dance 'n Prance ponies is how nearly every one of their elaborate accessories is designed to hide their bizarre nature.  Giant KNOB IN CHEST?  No problem, drape a boa around it!  Unsightly plastic slip around the base of the tail so the hair doesn't get tangled?  Nothing a GIANT RIBBON can't solve!

My other favorite thing is they were produced AFTER the Happy Tails ponies, who managed to look like basically normal ponies even though they had the same spinny tail gimmick.

The giant knob is better than the gaping hole or sharp broken spike left behind when the knob gets broken...

She's Just. That. Bad. Gingerbread and Sweet Stuff are pretty notorious for spotting as well, so I guess all TE ponies in that pose are Officially Cursed.

I had this same revelation just the other day when I was photographing ponies to sell. :P

Twirler: Sorry, Romper, I don't think I can dance anymore...
Romper: Awww! You just need a HUG!
Twirler: That's not gonna do it... I think I need to get this weird growth on my chest looked at...
Romper: Wait... what?!?

For me, the Tipsiest Pose Award goes to the Firefly mold, but Love Melody's is a close second. Fizzy's pose is third. She often tips forward, but at least she doesn't tip OVER.

I agree that curly hair gets significantly drier and coarser as it ages than its straight counterpart, especially for the more neon colors. Speaking of hair, the Sunshine ponies' color changing streak is often a mess. And speaking of color change, I don't even know where to begin with the Watercolor Baby Seaponies. It's a perfect concept, but I don't think the technology was quite there yet. Poor Seawinkle especially gets stuck in an awful muddy taupe color. :(
