Taming Pony Bride's tinsel?
« on: April 01, 2019, 04:05:22 AM »
Can any pony fixer-uppers advise me on what to do with the G1 Pony Bride's tinsel? I've got one with crazy curly tinsel, and I'd like to flatten it out. I tried wetting it and wrapping it around the pony, fastening it in place with a paper towel and rubber band and letting it dry ... didn't work. I tried flat ironing it on a low setting and it just pops back into its previously curly state. Is there any other choice than detinseling to make her hair look decent?

I have used conditioner. Used a thick layer. Flatten next to body. I have used a flat piece of plastic too. I take some time to really flatten the hair. Then I leave it for days. I have waited weeks before:)  when I rinse the hair, I try and keep the hair flat or straitened as it drying

Haven't tried it on a Bride yet, but I had a few Princesses with crimped and curly tinsel. I used my flat iron on it to straighten it out again and it worked like a charm. Lots of heat protection cream, medium heat setting (I went as high as ~120 °C), and slow, careful use of the iron, and the tinsel looked like new!
Specifically looking for G1 with pen markings similar to this (my initials - W.S.):

I use flat irons on crazy tinsel of all colors.  Just slather on the conditioner!

Use the flat iron while the conditioner is still on the hair?

Yes :) That seems to work well for me! just be careful and don't go too slow on the hair, as that might burn it off :) I've found several quick passes over the same small chunk of hair works better than one slow. (just make sure to run your fingers over the chunk with some extra conditioner on them between passes. it's easy, just touch the rest of the hair, should give you enough conditioner for a second or third pass ^^ )
