The Orville (Spoiler warning)
« on: February 22, 2019, 07:33:13 PM »
Mods, I had an Orville post before, but it hasn't been posted on since 2017.  So I didn't know if I should resurrect an old post or start a new one?  I didn't want to get in trouble so started fresh.

Any way, who is watching the Orville still?  I think its amazing!  And this weeks episode?  Oh my gosh!  Can't wait to find out what happens.  I'm on pins and needles right now!  I said in my old post I wasn't a fan of Isaac, but that's changed.  I knew Claire would get hurt, but I'm still hoping Isaac "evolves" and learns to love.

Sad to loose Alara.  Talla seems a little stiff in her acting, like she's "acting" you know?  But I still like her.  I think she's attractive.  Maybe with time she'll seem to fit in better.

Teleya.  I liked her when she was introduced last season, and sad that she felt so betrayed by Ed.  I was excited when she came back.  Can Ed melt her heart?  As the series progresses, will we have more interaction between the two?  We can only wait and see.

Bortus and his porn addiction episode was a little silly, and I think he missed the real meaning of what his consequences where.  Standing there facing the alien lady, his thoughts should have been these people are dying because of me, because of what I did.  Not what he and Klyden later argued about.

So what your thoughts.  Favorite characters/parts?

Yaaaas! I absolutely love the Orville. I love Bortus, issac, and alara the most. They’re my favourite characters, and I enjoy their interactions with the rest of the crew.
Favourite episode? Yeah, Bortus and his little “mishap”. I found it hilarious, and it gave a look into adult affairs that I haven’t yet experienced. In terms of most memorable episode? IMO, it’s “Home”. It was sad to watch her go, but I enjoyed seeing her and her family interact, accepting that their daughter might not be a usual xyleyan, she is still a force to be reckoned with and to be proud of. I have strong views on vaccinations (but I don’t want to get too political or sciencey here. Seriously, I could go on forever once I get started),and I found the portrayal of anti-vaxxers unique. In only the way a show like the Orville on a foreign planet could do. I enjoy the episodes with humour greatly, but home struck a very important note with me, that resonated deeply. And after all that seriousness, we have to say goodbye to our alara. She’s nice, strong and brave. Her goodbye made me she’d a tear or two (who’s chopping onions?!) in the final moments.
The episode with issac attempting to love was another notable favourite of mine. I can relate. I’ve never been in a relationship, so I wouldn’t know how to relationship. I found some of his actions a bit jerk-like. But I understand why he did them. He’s never done it, and is shooting almost blindly to try and comprehend love. While things might be a bit awkward at first, I hope issac finds a way to compute and understand love and affection. I’m rooting for you, ya tin can!
Overall, I love the Orville and the effort the crew and cast put into this project. I know it’s meant as a Star Trek parody, but the Orville feels like it adheres more to starfleets ideology than starfleet itself. And it shows the more “down to earth” side of what a space faring ship would be. Not to bash on Star Trek, as I love it too!

Update: just watched this weeks episode. Thoughts: well played kylon, well played. This episode made me love issac and his family on board the Orville even more, warming my heart. And then plot twist!
Spoiler
ISSAC AND HIS KIND ARE GOSH DANG CREEPY! Mass graves and genocide stuff...and are now going to invade other planets
So yeah. I have a little less than a week to repair my heart so it can be shattered again next episode. Honestly, I cannot wait. Good episode, and kudos to the production teams and cast.

I knew I knew that song from somewhere!
Spoiler
i liked this episode. I enjoy the down to earth, slice of life episodes. They’re not as action packed as others, but a welcome break. And this episode really hit my heartstrings. It was just so cute! When Malloy said goodbye, I had that song from doki doki literature club stuck in my head. if I don’t know how to love you...I’ll leave you be. this episode was beautiful. Also, Bortus and klyden this episode...just love you guys, even if you are now addicted to cigarettes.
My one problem with this episode comes not from the plot. Plot is good. But we have the internet. Almost everything is recorded, and I think it’s survived to the Orville’s time. All the things they asked “what is it?” Could have been answered with a quick search through records.
But seriously. Is it just me, or does it seem like the Orville has two modes: action-adventure-heavy-topics-that-make-you-go-“hmmm”, or a slice of life gentle episode? There is no in between. Not that I’m complaining though.
