Hope this is the right forum (Pony Restoration help!)

Hi friends!

I need some opinions on my ponies

What do you use to clean white ponies? (G3+G4)

I've used whitening toothpaste and soap + water, high lighter/pen marks/misc still there but I'll be buying Sard Wonder Soap to try on their hooves.

How do you straighten/de-frizz pony hair without screwing up? (G3 +G4)

I've used conditioner + hair straightener, it works a little and tried anti frizz serum + hair straightener, worked a lot more but left the hair stiff/clumpy afterwards, cleaning the hair up with repeat water/soap.

How do you get nice curls? And which of the circle thingies is best? (All gens)

Tried with a hair straightener on a MdDonalds pony, didn't work as well as I'd hope.

This site can help you  bit.

I find the dip the ponys hair in warm water to work good. Can it take time? Yes, I am still working slowly on one pony and right now only the white nylon is not giving up the frizz.

i curl hair using straws and bobby pins.  let it dry, then pull the straws gently out.

boiling water and a fish knife against the plastic "pores" gets the ingrained dirt out

strong chemicals like acne cream  or bleach are a NEVER

Pen marks are stains, so they need to be sunfaded. That link that Strawberry supplied has some instructions, but be sure to check in often, as sunfading is much more practiced on G1 and some have reported issues while attempting to sunfade G3.

What about sun fading G4?

The Sard Wonder Soap had a visible effect on my G3, reducing the stains so with the remaining ones I just gotta keep applying.

With my G4 pony, the sard wonder soap didn't have any visible effect, other than lightening up his skin so using it to remove stains isn't an option.

So I'm guessing wet the hair, maybe condition it and put the hair around the straws, letting it dry out?

I can understand the boiling bit, but may I ask what a fish knife is?  Never heard of it.

What is in Sard Wonder Soap? It sounds like it's bleaching your ponies, which can be a very bad thing.

Same method, just keep close watch.

You got it! A fish knife is a non-serrated yet sharp knife. Google has lots of examples. You can use scissors or a finger nail as well.
What is in Sard Wonder Soap? It sounds like it's bleaching your ponies, which can be a very bad thing.
I cannot for the life of me find an ingredients list (likely because I don't have a VPN to set to Aussie) but someone said it has "non abrasive materials"? Makes me think if it's like oxiclean.
Also, you mentioned using various hair products. The best thing to do is simply shampoo and conditioner. I brush out the hair once it is conditioned, and you can use light heat on most types of hair (barring tinsel or UV-change which is absent in G3+G4 hair) if the frizz is excessive. No sprays, gels, etc needed. If the hair is beyond repair you will have to straighten very small amounts at a time or do a complete re-hair.

sounds like Sard Wonder Soap is a variant of oxiclean!
don't use oxiclean on anything metallic/shiny.  it's last resort, I would use liquid dish soap before oxiclean.
regular shampoos/conditioners that you use are fine for pony hair

accept that many white ponies will NEVER be perfect and they can develop issues at any time

Here are some photos of the fish knife I use. As you can see it's handy for getting to those hard to reach places on a pony and is also lovely when you are deflocking:

Oh, okay. I can see how it's useful and I'll take a look around to see if I can find one.

My husband would be seriously curious if he found that our fish knives had migrated slowly to my pony cleaning kit.  LOL

Whew, thank you everyone for replying to this topic! It's been very informative and my Royalette turned out pretty okay, her hair is a lot better plus her marks are pretty small (compared to when I got her)

PS also I offered some pics of her to MLPMerch, to use for their database so hopefully we can see her there soon!
