I really wonder what this timing means for the end of G4 and start of G5?
I'm still hoping G4 ends this year and G5 starts in 2020.

Yay, NY Toy Fair weekend is here! Anxiously awaiting what more news and photos the rest of the weekend may bring.

I think anything that isn't confirmed to the public should always be taken with a grain of salt. Sometimes projects get delayed as budgets and other priorities allow. :O I mean even publicly announced things can change (notice "all dates subject to change").

Is there an official page that has the information on it? Is this a theater release or direct to home release. The later seems more likely?

but, I think both the proposals that have been pictures were just that... pitches to someone (within the company or not-- high level, business people and/or investors) about what they could do to make money. So it's better to just take it for what it is. possible things or possibly not as well.

Oh I really hope this movie will be an introduction to G5. I’ve had enough G4 at this point. I also hope cgi doesn’t mean hyper-realistic renderings on blobby cartoon shapes.  I really adored the animation style of the last movie, so I hope it’s similar to that! I’ll be keeping an eye out for more information on this. Hopefully we will know more soon!

I really wish people would stop using the term G5 until we know what it is and whether we can actually call it G5 by the definition of an actual new generation. A reboot of the same characters or within the same world is really not G5. MLP 2.0 is also an interesting label on that second diagram. FIM 2.0 seems to work better at this point as a classification.

In any case, I think Hasbro would be very ill advised to continue peddling G4 stuff at this point. Unless sales in the US are way better than I think they are, the line is already limping horribly. In this country, as I've said before, it still hasn't recovered from the previous extended animated mistake (largely because aside a couple of exceptions most all the stuff that's been released from it here has been mane 6 and kids here are fed up with mane 6). Entertainer's shelves have looked identical for the last year and Smyths have downsized their pony section in the same way they did MH (the thing taking up the most space is that ridiculous animatronic monstrosity). There is no way G4 will have a UK market in 2021. It surprises me that they think there will be one in 2020. Better to cut it now and then start afresh in 2021 if you ask me.

Maybe this movie will be different enough to be called G5, if it actually exists (as bandit pony says, things can change and plans can move, etc). But the means of promoting it with an image of Spike and Twilight doesn't give me a ton of hope that it will be.

G4 seems to be a victim of its own success now :/

So here's a confusing question... when they say 'CGI', did they classify the animation from the first movie as CGI? Because I really liked that! Or are we talking like ... the horrible hyper-realistic Smurfs movie?

Also, DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS?! So hyped!

Well Hasbro did confirm a lot of stuff recently

On their FB page they made a recent post announcing season 9 will be the last season of FiM and they are continuing development of the new CGI movie.

I'm sure all of this is known, I'm tired and brain dead lol

Like all forms of art, CGI can look absolutely beautiful if done right, in my opinion, but I'm surprised that's what they're going for since the Toon Boom looked so beautiful and close to the cartoon series, albeit slightly different.

I love G4 but I'm so done with Hasbro's just pushing main 6 toys and now the dwindling stock iffy if we get any release on the shelves trend right now. g5 will bring some fresh air to the line even if it turns out I don't like it. (looking at you new tmnt...ugly! but I'm happy people are still loving it)

Doubtful. Since they supposedly are doing more m6 artwork in different styles, we'll have who knows how many more years of torture and tedium.
