Nevermind, I mustered the guts to ask the seller and got his story. He was her 30 year old childhood toy. She'd been trying to sell him for weeks with no interest, then someone came round to buy something else and their daughter fell in love with him so she gave him to her for free. How sweet. A shame I missed him but how wonderful that he's become someone else's childhood toy. 

I saved his picture because he's so gorgeous, maybe some day I'll be able to sew my own with him as inspiration.
