First of all, thank you to everyone who helped me figure out how to re-root a pony. I've been wanting to try my hand at customs for years but the thought of rehairing always scared me off.
I'm happy that I now have a solid grasp on it and I'm hoping to make more customs in the future now! For the time being, I started off with persona Sedona Dreams. I figured at least I don't have to worry about coming up with a design and if I completely mess up, I won't have to feel too bad since I already have a nice commission of her from a few years back.
I still have a
lot to learn, but for a first attempt, I'm pretty proud!

loginAs you can see, she's got one piece of hair that does not want to cooperate.
I'm working on taming it right now, but if it doesn't want to sit, well, being a little sloppy is definitely her style.
She started life as a very sad Glory. She had a smooshed face and her legs had warped to the point where she couldn't stand. Glory also had no tail, a buzz cut, no symbols, and red paint marks all over. She seemed like a good candidate to give a new life to, so I got to work on fixing her warped plastic first. The face was a little beyond repair unfortunately. It's still a little funky, but it's better than it was before! For her feet, adding the fur helped balance her out!
I think doing a full body repaint was maybe a little ambitious for a first project. I lost a lot of the paint on her head during rehairing, which I'm pretty sure I have an idea of how to prevent next time, but it was disappointing for sure. For my next project I think it will be strictly a rehair so I can better get the hang of that without worrying about flaky paint.
In the end, despite her flaws, I'm very proud of how she turned out.
I hope in a couple years I can look back and see improvement from the starting point, but for now I think she's given me the confidence I need to keep trying!
