"Just tell Dad not to say anything and I'm sure it will be fine".
To my mother, while travelling home from uni on Friday.
Snow was forecast, and my train sounded like it was going to break.
As regards my Dad, he has a really seriously uncanny and annoying knack for saying something and then something happens, esp with transport.
Whenever my train is late or crowded it coincides with him saying something like, "I hope your train is on time" or "I hope it's not too busy". Literally, on one occasion, my bus was fine until I got an email from my Dad saying he hoped my journey back had been ok, at which point the bus ended up in a huge traffic jam and was seriously delayed.
So telling Dad to not speak is a way of getting home safely in our family. Weird and sounds a bit farfetched, but it happens so often that it's better safe than sorry.
