3D printed Baby Licorice barrette
« on: January 21, 2019, 01:12:39 AM »
So my friend just got a 3D printer and he was able to print Baby Licorice's barrette.   Was just wondering for anyone who has 3D printed pony accessories if you have any advice on how to improve.  Was also wondering if there might be a site where I can get measurements of the accessories.  I would like to try some others and I had to guess at dimensions for this.  It is about 4 cm lengthwise and 1.8 cm wide and I have no idea if that is accurate lol

Anyway I love how it turned out.  What do you think?

That is so cool! I think 3D printing is the neatest thing! How fun! I’d be making barrettes like crazy!

wow, great work!!!
May I ask (as I have no idea) what you need to do to let the printer know what to print...?

This is amazing! I want a 3D printer soooo badly! I’m alright when it comes to modelling, but I want to print a few of my things too.
Your barrette looks amazing! I could have mistaken it for a legit hasbro product if you hadn’t said anything. But tip of advice: mark as reproductions. Hasbro has been known to be a little...finicky when it comes to fan made objects.
This. Sentence. Is. False! Dontthinkaboutitdontthinkaboutit.

Thanks everyone!   Yeah I am really not that great with modeling either.   It was my friend who modeled everything and printed it.   I would love to try to do more things though!  See if that works lol

As far as marking it as a reproduction.   I really wasn't intending to sell.   I only have the one which I was just going to keep for myself.   Maybe if I have specific interest?  I would need to clear everything with my friend first though.  Since it is his printer.

I think with this example it's different from the actual clip enough to be able to tell the difference on sight, but while Hasbro twitches most at fan stuff around G4, collectors twitch about repro stuff for G1. So yeah, I will say the same thing I always say - mark it even if you don't think you will sell it. Because if you get abducted by aliens and someone else ends up clearing your collection, confusion can happen.

My sister has lost her clip for Liquorice, so I helpfully haven't seen it in a while to be sure if this also applies to hers. But from my memory of my two baby ponies' clips, the originals are a shinier plastic and the yellow one at least is more 'hollowed out'...so there shouldn't be any confusion. Not that I endorse reproduction accessories in any way, shape or form - I wish they didn't happen at all, honestly - but repros that can be identified as such are much better than ones that can't.

The originals also have teeth, I think and a...what would you call it? The thing a hair clip clicks together with, to hold it shut?

Well, he is printing two more of the licorice barrettes.  Just painting them yellow and pink to match Baby Candy and Baby Lollipop.  I would love to print more things but I don't really want to impose.

Think I just need to get my own 3D printer.  Not sure if that is ever going to happen though

I’ve got a 3D printer. Absolutely love it! I need to learn how to design my own stuff though as there’s some G1 pony bits I’m missing that I’ll just never be able to find/afford for real.
Can I ask how your friend handled the bend in the clip (between the back and front). I would love to make same lost clips and a replacement hinge for my grooming parlour but I didn’t realise PLA could bend like that.

Yep!  Pretty sure all he did was print the barrette separate from the clip and then glued them together.

Also may be working on a couple of more things  :) Will see how it goes!
